Cambodian King to visit Vietnam

On November 25, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying: At the invitation of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong, King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneat Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia will pay a state visit to Vietnam from November 28-29, 2024.

The visit of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni took place right after the official visit to Cambodia by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man (November 21-24, 2024). Previously, in July 2024, at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, General Secretary To Lam (then President) paid a state visit to Cambodia. On both occasions, King Norodom Sihamoni presided over a solemn welcoming ceremony or audience.

In an interview with the press about the upcoming visit of King Norodom Sihamoni, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang said that King Norodom Sihamoni's visit not only demonstrates his special friendship for the country and people of Vietnam but is also an important highlight, contributing to deepening the friendly neighborly relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Since ascending the throne on October 29, 2004, King Norodom Sihamoni has visited and vacationed in Vietnam three times (in 2006, 2012, 2018) and the upcoming trip will be his fourth visit.

During this visit, King Norodom Sihamoni will hold talks and meetings with all top leaders of Vietnam, thereby contributing to deepening the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Cambodia in the coming time.

"Direct meetings and exchanges between the two countries' senior leaders always play a very important role in orienting the promotion of comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. In that spirit, I believe that this State visit to Vietnam by King Norodom Sihamoni is of profound significance, aiming to continue to consolidate, cultivate, expand and further strengthen the relationship between the two countries under the motto of "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability". Thereby contributing to strengthening and consolidating the traditional cooperative relationship between the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and People of the two countries", Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang commented.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1967, Vietnam and Cambodia have continuously strengthened their cooperative relationship. According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam is currently Cambodia's third largest trading partner and the largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2023, Vietnam-Cambodia trade turnover reached 8.6 billion USD. Vietnam has 205 investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of 2.94 billion USD, ranking first in ASEAN and in the top 5 countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia. Cambodia ranks second among 79 countries and territories in which Vietnam has invested abroad.
