On September 10, the Australian government announced it would introduce legislation this year to ban children from using social media platforms in order to reduce physical and mental health risks for children.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: "We want children to have real experiences with real people because we know that social media is having a negative impact on communities." A system for verifying the age of social media users will begin trials in the coming months.
The target age range for this ban has not been specified, but it is expected to be between 14 and 16 years old.
This move comes after Australia's cybersecurity regulator in July asked tech companies to implement restrictive rules to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content. Otherwise, they would have to comply with a general set of rules imposed by the government.
Currently, many countries are trying to restrict children's use of social media, but legal and technological challenges have made these efforts difficult.
