Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,681 USD/ton, down 0.64% compared to yesterday, the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,146 USD/ton, down 0.65% compared to yesterday.
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper is at 6,400 USD/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper is at 8,500 USD/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper is at 11,000 USD/ton.
In which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper is traded at 6,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,800 USD/ton; the price of white pepper is at 9,500 USD/ton.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's pepper exports have recorded an average price of 5,005 USD/ton, up 50.1% over the same period last year. Export turnover reached 1.04 billion USD, marking the first time in the past 8 years that pepper export turnover has exceeded the 1 billion USD mark.
In the first 15 days of October, the average export price of pepper exceeded 6,500 USD/ton, up 0.7% compared to the previous month and 67.6% compared to the same period last year. This is the highest price in nearly 8 years, since March 2017.
Although export volume decreased by 2.5%, export turnover still increased sharply by 46.4%, reaching 208,776 tons. This growth shows the strength and potential of Vietnam's pepper industry in the international market.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that some pepper gardens in Ba Ria - Vung Tau have entered the fruiting stage and are expected to be harvested in mid-January 2025.
In Brazil, black pepper prices continued to decline due to the weakening of the Real, with the exchange rate at 5.71 BRL/USD. Meanwhile, black pepper prices in Cambodia and white pepper in China remained unchanged. The pepper market in the US stabilized after three weeks of decline, although trading remained limited.
The pepper price index in the first 9 months of 2024 showed a positive trend, with black pepper prices increasing by 8.3% and white pepper prices increasing by 9.1%. The aggregate price of black pepper reached USD 7,184/ton, while white pepper reached USD 9,363/ton. Pepper exports from countries such as India and Indonesia recorded strong growth, while Brazil and Vietnam saw slight declines.
