More than 1,000 students receive tuition and living expenses support
On June 21, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province announced that it had issued instructions and a plan to implement Decree No. 116 dated September 25, 2020 of the Government regulating policies to support tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogical students in Quang Nam.
Accordingly, full-time teacher training students with permanent residence in Quang Nam province (including students of the joint training program who are employees working at state agencies, parties, organizations and public service units in the province), who have been admitted to teacher training institutions nationwide under the assignment quota, order or bidding for teacher training of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province (if any), or trained according to social needs at Quang Nam University will be supported by the province to pay tuition fees, equal to the tuition fees of the training institution and an additional 3.63 million VND/month to cover living expenses during the study period (each school year does not exceed 10 months).
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Trong Duong - Principal of Quang Nam University, there are 1,057 pedagogical students who are trained according to social needs and are eligible for this policy studying at the university. Most of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the implementation of the policy also helps the university's enrollment and training organization to be more favorable.
Female student A Lang Thi Mai, a Co Tu ethnic minority, a primary school teacher education student at Quang Nam University shared: "The policy of supporting tuition fees and living expenses for teacher education students in Quang Nam is very meaningful for disadvantaged cases in the highlands like me, helping me reduce the burden on my family and feel secure in studying."
No tuition increase for the 2024-2025 school year
The Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam province has just reported on the project to regulate tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year, to prepare to submit to the Provincial People's Council at the upcoming meeting.
Notably, for educational institutions that have not yet self-financed regular expenses, tuition fees from the 2023-2024 school year will be kept stable at the same level as the 2021-2022 school year, as issued by the Provincial People's Council and applied locally.
According to Mr. Thai Viet Tuong - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam, considering the reality that in recent years, Quang Nam province has been adversely affected by natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic; at the same time, to ensure the implementation of tuition collection in accordance with Decree 81 and Decree 97 from the 2024 - 2025 school year, the industry proposes to regulate the tuition fee level from the 2024 - 2025 school year for public preschool and general education that has not yet ensured regular expenditures at the same level as the tuition fee level for the 2021 - 2022 school year.
Regarding the regulations on tuition exemption, reduction, and support for learning costs, in addition to the subjects specified in Decree 81, it is noteworthy that from the 2024-2024 school year, 5-year-old preschool children will also be exempted from tuition fees.
It is expected that the monthly tuition fees corresponding to urban, rural and mountainous areas for preschool education in Quang Nam in the 2024-2025 school year will be 105,000, 45,000, 20,000, respectively; for secondary school, it will be 60,000, 30,000, 15,000; for high school, it will be 105,000, 65,000, 20,000.
