Was the official drink at the Paris Conference in 1973
Duong Hoa tea trees have a 60-year history of development in Hai Ha. According to the History of the Quang Long Commune Party Committee, in 1963, in an effort to restructure the crop and livestock varieties of the Farm, small-leaf midland tea trees were brought from Quan Chu Farm (Bac Thai province at that time) for experimental planting. From the first 5,000m2 of tea, tea trees were officially planted en masse for the next ten years.
The land for growing tea in Hai Ha is low foothills, with the back leaning against the mountain and the front facing the sea, with harmonious sunlight and wind, underground water and a loose surface layer, which are the factors that give Duong Hoa tea its unmistakable flavor.
During the 1970s, thousands of tons of Duong Hoa tea were processed and delivered to the State to serve miners, people and export to Eastern European countries.
In 1973, Hai Ha's Duong Hoa tea product was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture as a product to bring to the Paris Conference. At this conference, the international community learned about a Vietnamese drink - Duong Hoa tea, bitter but sweet, elegant but rich in flavor, very gentle but fierce, completely different from Western drinks.

Famous as it is, there was a time when the tea area was almost wiped out. That was the period from 2014 to 2017, when businesses stopped purchasing, tea prices dropped, people dumped tea on the streets, hundreds of hectares of tea were abandoned, no one cared for or harvested...
In addition, some tea growing areas were destroyed by people to grow forestry trees and medicinal plants, which greatly affected the tea growing area of the entire Hai Ha district at that time.

Therefore, to preserve and develop the Duong Hoa tea brand, Hai Ha district has implemented a comprehensive project to develop a concentrated high-quality tea area in the period 2016-2020.
Accordingly, Hai Ha district supports investment models for intensive cultivation of tea business areas according to VietGAP process; allocates resources for repairing, renovating and upgrading factories; transfers technical processes and processing technology; encourages planting new tea varieties with high productivity, quality and good resistance to pests and diseases such as Ngoc Thuy, Huong Bac Son, Kim Tuyen...
At the same time, Hai Ha also strengthens coordination between tea growers, production and business enterprises and management agencies to create stable output and value for tea plants.

Thanks to that, since the beginning of 2017, Hai Ha's tea consumption has shown signs of improvement, and businesses have exported large quantities to markets in Russia, the Middle East and Türkiye...
To continue to enhance the position of tea trees, the locality continues to implement the Project to restructure the tea industry in Hai Ha district for the period 2022-2025.
Accordingly, Hai Ha district encourages people to cultivate tea according to VietGAP standards, create raw material areas for high-quality processing, focus on harvesting fresh tea buds, and form the habit of harvesting tea that meets the standard of "1 bud, 2-3 leaves"... Up to now, the whole district has nearly 40 hectares of tea certified according to VietGAP standards. The district also has 3 large-scale tea processing facilities, 8 medium and small-scale facilities, and 7 family-scale production households.
With the efforts from the government, people and businesses, the once famous Duong Hoa Tea brand is not only the main OCOP product of Hai Ha district but also one of the 12 main OCOP products of Quang Ninh province. Not only raw exports, refined processed tea products are also increasingly favored by domestic consumers.
