The Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung District (Hanoi) confirmed that there was no leaking of the math exam for gifted students in grade 9 and that no individual or department had been found to have leaked information about the exam to the outside.
The exam to select excellent 9th grade students for the 2024-2025 school year of Hai Ba Trung district took place on October 29 at the Ngo Quyen Secondary School Examination Site with the participation of 698 students from 18 public and non-public secondary schools in the district.
Students took the exam in 9 subjects: Literature, Mathematics, History and Geography, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, English, French, and Japanese. Of which, 78 students took the Math exam.
After the exam ended, information appeared on social networks that the math exam for 9th grade gifted students in Hai Ba Trung district was similar to the review exam for students in other districts.
Regarding the suspicion of leaking the math exam questions for 9th grade gifted students, on November 1, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district said that it had urgently summoned responsible members to check and verify.
The results of the review and verification show that the process of implementing the stages in building the district's excellent student exam questions for cultural subjects in grade 9 for the 2024-2025 school year in general and Mathematics in particular was carried out in accordance with regulations; there was no leaking of exam questions; no individual or department was found to have leaked information about the exam questions to the outside.
The annual district-level excellent student selection exam is given great attention and is seriously organized by the Department of Education and Training as well as schools, ensuring compliance with all regulations with the goal of selecting the best students for the city-level competition team.
With determination and a serious organization process, in recent years, the number of students in Hai Ba Trung district winning prizes in the city-level 9th grade excellent student competition has increased.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the entire district has 74 students winning city-level prizes, an increase of 4 students compared to the 2022-2023 school year exam.
Regarding the process of making exam questions for gifted students in grade 9 in general and Math in particular, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Ba Trung district said that it has invited experts with experience in training and making exam questions for gifted students from educational institutions outside the district to participate in supporting the making of exam questions by subject, according to the exam matrix and program limits that the department has built.
The Department also invites experts and key teachers to coordinate in reviewing the exam questions to ensure that the exam questions are accurate and meet the requirements of the gifted student exam questions.
After completing the exam preparation stage, all exam papers are sealed and sent to the head of the exam committee, then handed over to the exam printing committee and the exam invigilator committee to carry out the exam organization.
These steps are carried out seriously, in accordance with procedures and kept confidential according to regulations by the District Education and Training Department. All members participating in the tasks of the committees are established and assigned tasks by the Head of the District Education and Training Department. The members of the committees commit to take responsibility for the accuracy and confidentiality of the exam.
In Hai Ba Trung district, the teachers invited to create math questions are teachers from other districts and do not directly teach review in Hai Ba Trung district.
In addition to setting questions, teachers also support the Department of Education and Training in developing a review program when forming a district team to compete at the city level. This is a method that the Department of Education and Training has implemented for many years.
At this time, the relevant departments are urgently implementing the exam marking work. According to the expected plan, the results of the district-level 9th grade excellent student exam will be announced on November 11, 2024.
To ensure objectivity, fairness and seriousness for the exam, the Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training will continue to grasp information and verify the incident; at the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of the exam marking stage as well as other stages to ensure proper implementation of exam regulations.
The Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training affirmed that if any errors are discovered, the department will handle them seriously, in accordance with regulations and ensure the best interests of students participating in the exam.
