According to the DW media group, up to 800,000 servicemen and more than 200,000 pieces of equipment may need to be transported through Germany to Eastern Europe. As part of the "Operation Plan Germany" (OPLAN DEU), the military, in coordination with NATO allies, is drawing up plans to move troops to Eastern Europe if Russia launches a military attack on the alliance.
On the same day, Der Spiegel reported that in the event of an attack on NATO's eastern flank, 800,000 soldiers and more than 200,000 pieces of equipment would be transported to Germany within 3-6 months.
The key west-to-east route is expected to be the A2 motorway, stretching from the city of Oberhausen in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Berlin ring road.
In a related development, Major General Christian Freuding, Director of the Ukraine Monitoring Center of the German Ministry of Defense, recently said that almost all 100 Patriot missiles committed to be sold to Ukraine have been delivered. This move complies with the commitment of German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on June 11.
The final batch of missiles is being delivered, Freuding was quoted by German television channel ZDFheute as saying. The speedy delivery underscores Germany’s strong commitment to supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
