Recently, the story of a class in Quang Binh having a deficit fund was shared on social media, causing outrage among many parents. According to the parents, students in this class had previously paid 45 million VND for the entire year (1 million VND/student for both semesters).
However, near the end of the year, the fund deficit reached 30 million VND. Therefore, although it was almost summer vacation, each student still had to pay an additional 1 million VND. That is the story that happened in class 11D6, Dao Duy Tu High School, Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh.

Ms. N., a parent of class 11D6, shared more about this story. Specifically, in the 2022-2023 school year, her daughter paid 2 installments of 500,000 VND each. The class has 45 students, the total fund amount is 45 million VND.
However, near summer break, Ms. N. continued to receive notice that each student had to pay an additional 1 million VND, including 650,000 VND for class fund and 350,000 VND for year-end travel and picnic expenses.
"In addition to the above fund, during the school year, the class also called for support up to 4 more times to carry out activities, but the spending was unclear. Parents made suggestions but the teacher did not explain. I do not know how much the fund deficit is, but it is unreasonable to ask each student to pay an additional 650,000 VND near summer break," said Ms. N.
Regarding the incident, this morning, the leaders of Dao Duy Tu High School had a meeting with representatives of the parents' committee and the homeroom teacher of class 11D6.
Mr. Duong Van Trai, Principal of Dao Duy Tu High School, affirmed that it was unreasonable for the teacher to collect class funds or intervene in this matter. The teacher's only duty was to advise and guide the parents' committee.
According to the report of the homeroom teacher of class 11D6, the information about the fund contribution of 500,000 VND/student per semester is correct. The fact that this class has a fund deficit is true, but the school is clarifying how much the deficit is.
Mr. Trai added: "Perhaps parents saw that they had to pay 650,000 VND to the fund, while it was almost summer vacation, so they thought that it was the amount to compensate for the fund deficit. This amount multiplied by 45 students is nearly 30 million VND. However, the homeroom teacher explained that there would still be money spent on some year-end activities, including rewarding students for excellent student competitions, year-end parties... and not to compensate for all the negative money."
According to the principal, regarding this matter, the school will specifically check how much the 11D6 class has in the negative fund and have a suitable plan to compensate at the beginning of the next school year.
"The school has stopped collecting an additional 1 million VND from students in class 11D6. We will also have a meeting with all parents and teachers of the class to discuss frankly and clarify the sources of income and expenditure, to avoid causing frustration for parents," said Mr. Trai.
Quang Binh Department of Education and Training also requested Dao Duy Tu High School to clarify and report to the Department for handling of the above incident.
