Hanoi parents 'surround' schools to ask for their children to study, Department of Education and Training speaks up

On the afternoon of August 21, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Nam Tu Liem District, apologized for making parents worry as the new school year approaches.

As soon as the information about parents surrounding the school gate was known, the Department of Education and Training requested the school to promptly resolve the requests. Parents were invited to the school and filled out a request form, stating their household registration information and the desired school for their children to attend.

The Department of Education and Training of Nam Tu Liem district informed that there is currently a group of students who want to transfer to Tay Mo 3 Primary School.

First, students in grades 2-5 from neighboring schools requested to transfer to the new school, of which the largest number was Ly Nam De Primary School (Mieu Nha, Tay Mo), with 233 students requesting to transfer.

Second, students from other provinces and districts have just moved to live in apartment buildings in the area.

Third, students entering grade 1 this year but have not yet submitted their application to the school in the 2024 admission period (some students applied to other schools, now seeing that Tay Mo 3 Primary School is in operation, they have withdrawn their application to transfer back...).

Ms. Tam said that Tay Mo 3 Primary School is a public school separated from Tay Mo Primary School and is for children in the ward.

"After separating grades 2 to 5 and recruiting new grades 1, the total number of students at Tay Mo 3 Primary School is 1,111 students divided into 30 classes," said Ms. Tam, adding that all newly recruited students have household registration in Tay Mo ward according to the prescribed enrollment route.

First grade students are recruited according to regulations, according to the right subjects that have been assigned to the school with a registration quota of 400. However, the number of first grade students is exceeding the quota by 60 to 460 students/13 classes. Those who do not submit their applications within the prescribed time are considered to have no need.

After the Department of Education and Training distributes the application form, parents of students wishing to submit the application will receive, synthesize information, classify subjects, and count the number to have a solution.

On the same morning, nearly 300 parents with registered residences in Group 7-12, Tay Mo Ward, were present at the gate of Tay Mo 3 Primary School, indignantly demanding to meet the school leaders to question the fact that their children could not study near home, but had to study at a school 4-5km away, causing inconvenience in commuting.
