The Russian Defense Ministry said that in the past 24 hours, Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted two British-made Storm Shadow missiles.
On November 22, Sputnikglobe quoted an announcement from the Russian Ministry of Defense saying that in the past 24 hours, Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted two British-made Storm Shadow missiles, six US-made HIMARS missiles, and 67 drones.
The Storm Shadow missile, known for its long range and high accuracy, is at the center of a dispute between Russia, Ukraine and the West. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the use of the Storm Shadow against the Kursk region “a new and dangerous escalation,” and criticized the U.S. administration under President Joe Biden for its “irresponsible” stance in allowing Ukraine to use long-range weapons.
“This is a new escalation. It is a very irresponsible position of the outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden,” Peskov said in response to a question from journalists about the Kremlin’s assessment of recent missile strikes on Russian territory.

According to The Times, the US has changed its position and now approves Ukraine to deploy Storm Shadow to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory. This marks a turning point in Washington's approach, as recent reports also confirm that Ukraine has received approval to use US ATACMS missiles with a strike radius of up to 300 km.
The Storm Shadow missile was jointly developed by the UK and France and was decided to be supplied to Ukraine as a response to the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. France has provided the Scalp variant, similar to the Storm Shadow, to help Ukraine increase its ability to strike strategic targets, including important areas such as Crimea.
Storm Shadow's Modern Design and Features
According to Army Recognition, Storm Shadow is a long-range air-launched cruise missile. Weighing 1,300 kg and measuring 5.1 meters in length, it is optimally designed to carry out strategic strikes with high precision. The range of the standard version is 560 km, while the export version can reach about 250 km.
The missile has a top speed of 1,000 km/h (Mach 0.8-0.95), fast enough to penetrate advanced air defense systems. Its 450 kg BROACH warhead is specially designed to penetrate hardened and buried targets, then explode to cause maximum damage.
Storm Shadow’s guidance system combines a variety of advanced technologies, including inertial navigation, GPS and TERPROM – a terrain reference positioning system. In the final phase of its trajectory, it uses the imaging infrared DSMAC guidance system to ensure absolute precision before impact.
The Turbomeca Microturbo TRI 60-30 turbojet engine with 5.4 kN thrust helps maintain high speed over long distances. With a diameter of 0.48 meters and a wingspan of 3 meters, the Storm Shadow retains a compact design, suitable for long-range attack missions.
