On May 5, continuing his working trip to the United States, in New York, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
At a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed that Vietnam persistently supports multilateralism, a world order based on international law and the UN Charter.
Vietnam supports the central role of the United Nations in the global governance system to respond to common challenges and will contribute to the United Nations' major priorities in the coming time.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said that Vietnam supports and is determined to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and respond to climate change; and supports United Nations initiatives to accelerate the realization of sustainable development goals.
The Deputy Prime Minister proposed that the United Nations prioritize supporting Vietnam in mobilizing finance, transferring technology, sharing knowledge and practical experience, especially in a number of areas such as improving the capacity to respond and adapt to climate change, effectively managing water resources, energy conversion, innovation, and digital transformation.
United Nations organizations are ready to support Vietnam in accelerating the implementation of development goals.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said the world is entering an important phase with many global challenges, requiring countries to uphold multilateralism and promote cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals.
Ms. Amina Mohammed said that Vietnam is an important partner of the United Nations; she hopes that Vietnam will coordinate in implementing the United Nations' agendas, including responding to climate change, energy transition, digital transformation, maintaining food supply chains, promoting education, ensuring inclusive development, social justice, etc.
Ms. Amina Mohammed affirmed that United Nations organizations are ready to support Vietnam in mobilizing resources, thereby helping Vietnam accelerate the implementation of development goals, especially in energy transition and climate change response.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai visits Cornell University's Cornell School of Technology
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai visited and spoke at Cornell University, a prestigious and long-standing university in the United States.
The school's principal, Mr. Greg Morrisett, said that although it was only established in 2011, the school has made great contributions to the development of human resources in the field of science and technology and supported the establishment of more than one hundred technology startups in New York City.
The school's training programs focus on fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, algorithms, network security, etc.
The President of Cornell University of Technology also highly appreciated the cooperation with Vietnamese universities as well as the quality of Vietnamese students studying at the school.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his delight at visiting one of the leading universities in the United States and the world, and one of the universities that has actively promoted educational cooperation with Vietnam.
