On November 29, after the official welcoming ceremony solemnly held at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz.
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz affirmed that Türkiye considers Vietnam one of its top priority partners in ASEAN, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, defense - security, tourism, etc.
At the talks, the two leaders affirmed their desire and determination to further promote the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye for the common interests of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and development in the two regions and the world, aiming to soon upgrade the relationship in the coming time.
Speaking to the press after the talks, the Turkish Vice President affirmed that he will always remember the human and material support that the Vietnamese Government and people have given Türkiye in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. Turkey will open a consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding economic cooperation between the two countries, Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz said that it is continuing to develop positively and in a more balanced direction. With the advantage of two complementary economies, the two sides agreed to soon increase bilateral trade turnover to 4 billion USD, through opening the market for agricultural products and each other's strengths.
In particular, promoting the negotiation of the FTA Agreement at the 8th Joint Committee Meeting, increasing the frequency of cargo flights... In the Halal field, Türkiye pledges to support Vietnam, thereby increasing bilateral trade turnover.
The Turkish Vice President highly appreciated the success of the Vietur Consortium led by the Turkish company (IC Holdings Group - PV) in winning the bid for the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal package (worth 35,000 billion VND - PV).
Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz also said that he accepted an early official visit to Vietnam in 2024 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Proposal to soon recognize Vietnam as having a full market economy
Opening his greetings in Turkish, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he was very impressed with the country's rich history and culture, its majestic natural landscapes, and its hospitable people, known as the "crossroads of civilizations".
The Prime Minister appreciated the fact that Türkiye is currently the largest direct investor from the Middle East in Vietnam, with a total registered investment capital of nearly 1 billion USD. At the same time, he will create all conditions for Turkish corporations and enterprises to invest in priority areas such as industrial production, high-tech agriculture, consumption, green economy, and innovation.
"There is still a lot of room for development cooperation and room to promote bilateral relations, but there is a lack of cooperation mechanisms. So the key task in the coming time is to build a mechanism for bilateral relations to deepen. I propose that Türkiye soon recognize Vietnam as having a full market economy," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Regarding cooperation in the field of defense and security, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry, promote information exchange, fight against crime, and promote cooperation in training, technical and technological training, search and rescue, and humanitarian relief, etc.
The Head of the Vietnamese Government proposed that Türkiye continue to create more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living in Türkiye to integrate into the host society, contributing to the development of Turkey as well as the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Turkey.
After the talks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of agriculture and forestry between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Turkish Diplomatic Academy, and a Letter of Intent on cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
