On October 9, the Government Office sent a document to the Minister of Education and Training, conveying the Deputy Prime Minister's opinion on urgently directing the inspection and strict handling of violations related to press information stating that students reported having to eat leftover rice and soup with "foreign objects".
The Government Office's document stated that Tuoi Tre Online newspaper on October 7 and some other media reported on the poor quality of meals for students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology during two weeks of national defense and security education.
Regarding the above incident, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long assigned the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to urgently direct inspections and strictly handle violations according to regulations.
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Education and Training to strengthen direction, management, and inspection of the implementation of food hygiene and safety for students in educational institutions, ensuring quality and safety, and preventing similar cases from recurring.
Previously, on the evening of October 7, information from the program Chuyen Dong 24h - VTV24 said that recently, the hotline of Chuyen Dong 24h continuously received complaints from many students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology about the quality of meals during 2 weeks of national defense education.
According to the news of Chuyen Dong 24h, according to the students, in addition to the rice and soup being rotated, and leftovers from the previous meal being used for the next meal, the students also discovered many unusual foreign objects in the food. To the point that a group of students had to buy bread to share for lunch, even though they had just left the A15 cafeteria.
Some other students also told VTV24 about a student encountering "rotten" boiled eggs or food with flies, "chit chit vitamin" - rat droppings...
In addition to rice, half-eaten bowls of soup are also collected, poured into the pot, and continued to be scooped into new portions. Students also said that many times they discovered foreign objects, insects, or had to eat rotten eggs. They pay 75,000 VND for food a day, including 15,000 VND for breakfast, 30,000 VND for lunch and dinner.
Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh - Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology - said that after receiving feedback that students taking the school's national defense and security education course had to eat leftover rice and soup, the school organized a meeting with students to gather information.
"The school's leadership has made a number of important decisions, such as drawing lessons from all related stages; decisively stopping the unit providing meal services for students studying national defense and security; assigning the student affairs office to monitor all activities related to student meals, and proactively grasping students' feedback," said Mr. Chinh.
