At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer expressed their delight at the development momentum and positive progress in all areas that the Vietnam-US relationship has achieved after one year of upgrading to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam considers the United States a partner of strategic importance and wishes to continue, together with the United States, to deepen the bilateral relationship in an effective, stable and sustainable manner on the basis of respecting independence, sovereignty and the fundamental principles of bilateral relations, bringing benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
He suggested that the two sides continue to increase contacts and delegation exchanges, especially at high levels, and suggested that the National Security Council and relevant agencies of the two sides closely coordinate to prepare for activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025; promote economic-trade-investment, science-technology and innovation cooperation, as well as other areas of cooperation within the framework of the new relationship.
Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer acknowledged and appreciated the opinions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, and reaffirmed the Government's strong support for promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, consistently supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.
Mr. Jonathan Finer agreed and said that the United States will continue to pay attention to dedicating resources to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war, high-tech cooperation, developing high-quality human resources, etc.
The two sides discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern, including Mekong cooperation and climate change response, and agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, security, stability, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.
