On the morning of July 11, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, received the delegation of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, led by Ms. Samina Mehtab, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Vietnam, who visited Lao Cai province.
At the reception, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, gave a general overview of Lao Cai province and some of the province's strengths; and also reviewed the province's socio-economic development situation. Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2023, Lao Cai maintained a growth rate of 4.95%, higher than the growth rate in the first 6 months of 2022 (4.08%), with state budget revenue estimated at 3,580 billion VND. Total social investment capital reached 23,850 billion VND. Industrial production value is estimated at 20,426 billion VND, equal to 39.97% of the plan and 91.82% over the same period. Total retail sales of goods and social service revenue is estimated at 18,157 billion VND, equal to 52.8% of the plan, up 24.8% over the same period. Total number of tourists to Lao Cai is estimated at 3.8 million (of which domestic tourists are estimated at 3.57 million).
Regarding investment attraction in 2022, Lao Cai province has issued investment policy decisions for 23 projects with a total registered investment capital of VND 4,403 billion, of which 19 projects are outside the border economic zone and industrial zones with a registered investment capital of VND 3,464 billion; 4 projects in the border economic zone and industrial zones with a registered capital of VND 939 billion. In the first 6 months of the year, the Provincial People's Committee issued investment policy decisions for 6 domestic investment projects with a total capital of VND 114.89 billion.
For Lao Cai province, in 2020, there was a meeting and working session with the Pakistani Trade and Investment Counselor in Vietnam. Through the visit and working session of the delegation, the two sides expressed their hope to promote and expand cooperation in all fields, especially in trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Pakistan in general and between Lao Cai province and Pakistan in particular, which is increasingly expanded and developed.
On this occasion, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, hoped that through the visit and working session of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Lao Cai province. With the potential, advantages and common interests of both sides, Lao Cai province proposed to Ms. Samina Mehtab and the delegation to pay attention to, support and introduce, connect potential investors, businesses and Pakistani partners to learn, survey, research, and implement investment cooperation activities in the fields that the province has development needs and advantages. Promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, education, health, tourism, and services. Establish and expand business seminars and forums to enhance connectivity, learn about the market, promote trade cooperation, and export agricultural products of the province to the Pakistani market in the coming time.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Samina Mehtab, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Vietnam, thanked Lao Cai province for the warm welcome and said that Vietnam and Pakistan have many similarities to cooperate in economic development. Currently, according to the assessment, economic development cooperation between the two countries is still low, not commensurate with the existing potential and advantages. Hopefully, in the coming time, there will be more cooperation for mutual development between the two countries.
Ms. Samina Mehtab hopes that Lao Cai province and Pakistani businesses can meet and connect. The Ambassador will be a bridge for businesses from both sides to explore cooperation in the future. Ms. Samina Mehtab also invited Lao Cai province to send officials to Pakistan to attend capacity building courses for Pakistani officials, thereby helping Lao Cai officials to better understand Pakistan's cooperation and trade policies, helping to connect and cooperate in the future...
