Revealing very difficult flying exercises
These days at Kep airport, Regiment 927, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force, the preparation, practice, and training for flights to welcome the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 is extremely thorough. The Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 will be held at Gia Lam airport, Hanoi, from December 19 to 22, 2024.One of the most anticipated and special parts is the welcoming flight of the Su-30MK2 "king cobra" fighters with somersaults, many twists in the air, vertical tightening, flying in formations of 3, formations of 4 aircraft at close range, low altitude...
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen The Dung, political commissar of Division 371, along with the command board and pilots, discussed the pre-flight training plan.
Lieutenant Colonel pilot Nguyen The Dung - political commissar of Division 371, one of the pilots who will participate in flying the Su-30MK2 fighter and will directly perform the maneuver of the aircraft accelerating to roll 90 degrees and tighten the vertical zone, then turn back - said that this is one of the advanced flying exercises, requiring a high level of pilot skill.
"Increasing speed, flipping up and tightening the vertical zone are advanced aerobatic flying techniques. Not to mention, this is an aerobatic movement at low altitude, so it requires a very high level of pilot skill," said Lieutenant Colonel Dung.
Like the pilots participating in the welcome flight, Mr. Dung felt extremely proud to be a soldier who joined the spirit of the entire army and armed forces in the festival celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam National Defense Day.
Lieutenant Colonel pilot Vu Duc Hung in a formation of 4 Su-30MK2 fighters
As for Lieutenant Colonel pilot Vu Duc Hung, deputy regimental commander and chief of staff of Regiment 927, this is the second time he has participated in a welcome flight to serve the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition.
Lieutenant Colonel Hung said that not only for demonstration flights but also for other training flights, all pilots put safety first.
"To have good mental fortitude, pilots must be proficient in all aspects of movement as well as handling unexpected situations that may occur during the flight. In addition, pilots must also have a firm grasp of different conditions during the flight, especially the terrain and weather conditions of the Northern region during flight operations," said Mr. Hung.
Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Tran To Nguyen, political commissar of Regiment 923, Division 371, said that all pilots selected to fly to welcome the exhibition this time were carefully selected and fully capable of performing their missions.
"To carry out this mission, all pilots met the requirements well. As for the pilots who directly performed the acrobatic movements and difficult flying movements, they were all level 1 pilots and veteran flight instructors," Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen shared.
According to information from Regiments 927 and 923, during the recent training flight, the pilots' skills have clearly improved. Because this is a very difficult course, flying in large formations, at very low altitudes, close distances and strong maneuvers, it requires the pilots to be very focused.
Proud to fly over the homeland
As a fighter pilot with more than 2,000 flight hours, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vu Duc Hung said that joy and honor are not only his own feelings, but also those of all pilots when each time they fly in the sky of their homeland and country, they carry within them the pride of being a pilot of the Vietnam People's Air Force.
"This is the second time I have participated in a welcoming flight to serve the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition and was in the formation of 4 Su-30MK2 fighters. It is a pride, luck, joy and honor for a pilot to fly and perform in a very special event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army," Mr. Hung was moved.
As a native of Hai Duong, Lieutenant Colonel Hung also feels extremely emotional every time during training flights, he flies over the land where he was born and raised.
"During the process of building the flight demonstration route, I was very lucky that the squadron flew over Hai Duong city, which is where I was born and raised. Every time I fly over my beautiful homeland, I feel extremely honored, proud and moved," he recalled.
As for pilot Major Nguyen Van Hai, squadron leader of squadron 1, Regiment 927, said that in addition to the joy of carrying out a mission, preparing a stable mindset is also extremely important when flying.
"To ensure a stable mindset when flying, all pilots must be highly focused and do a good job of preparation as well as carefully and meticulously coordinate flight plans.
"Carefully studying the terrain and landmarks in the welcome flight area and doing a good job of training for complex flight movements are extremely important for the welcome flight," Major Hai added.
The Su-30MK2 fighter pilots also said that in the upcoming exhibition welcoming flight, there will be many difficult flights, especially the maneuvers when the formation passes at a very narrow distance, then the formation disbands so that the numbers in the disbanded formation are even, mobile, and at the same time to create the most beautiful flight trajectory.
