Since being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product, A'Đhir bags of the Co Tu Za Ra Brocade Weaving Cooperative (Ta Bhing commune, Nam Giang) have been favored by many domestic and foreign customers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lan - Director of the Za Ra Co Tu Brocade Weaving Cooperative said that up to now, the unit has 28 members, all of whom are women in Za Ra village. The products of the cooperative include bags, scarves, wallets, loincloths, robes, and dresses; of which the A'Đhir bag is ranked 3-star OCOP.

"A'Đhir bags are very elaborately made, have highly practical designs, and unique patterns, so they are chosen by many people," said Ms. Lan.

According to Ms. Lan, since being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product, A'Đhir bags have sold better than many other products. Partly because the bags are very compact and easy to use, customers love them. In 2024 alone, the Co Tu Za Ra Brocade Weaving Cooperative will supply the market with about 800 product lines, bringing in revenue of more than 140 million VND.

In addition to the A'Đhir bag product of the Co Tu Za Ra Brocade Weaving Cooperative, up to now, the mountainous district of Nam Giang has had 5 other products ranked 3 stars OCOP.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong - Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District People's Committee acknowledged: "The OCOP program has contributed to changing the production practices of ethnic minorities, arousing the potential for commodity production of agricultural products with strengths, creating a new direction in production and trading of traditional products with local advantages. Thereby, contributing to solving the problem of employment, creating more income, improving the lives of people...".

Many barriers

Nam Giang has a large natural area, rich resources, unique traditional cultural and culinary activities, which can be preserved and developed into OCOP products. However, in the past 6 years, only 6 products have achieved 3-star OCOP standards, showing that the development of OCOP products in this district still faces many difficulties and obstacles.

Mr. Ho Van Luyen - Deputy Head of Nam Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the main difficulty in developing OCOP products in mountainous areas is the consumption market and building brands for the subject. Currently, the products are mainly consumed in the district and a few neighboring areas.

In addition, some participants in the OCOP program still have many limitations in their capacity to prepare documents. In particular, the participants lack initial capital to invest in building product processing factories. Product designs, labels, designs, and packaging are also quite simple; production scale is still small...

“Notably, most of Nam Giang's products are currently maintained at the household scale, without close linkage in production and consumption.

Some products can be produced collectively but are currently produced by individual households, making product management, maintenance and development difficult.

Processing technology has not met the requirements, making the products mainly seasonal, unable to meet large orders or continuous, regular supply... All of the above factors are considered barriers in the process of building OCOP products in Nam Giang" - Mr. Ho Van Luyen said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, in the coming time, Nam Giang will continue to enhance the role and responsibility of Party committees and authorities at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, in leading and directing the implementation of the OCOP program; promote the strength of political and social organizations in implementing the program according to each specific content.

Encourage OCOP entities to participate in linkage and trade promotion activities at supply-demand connection forums, carry out connections on digital technology platforms, fairs to promote and connect trade of OCOP products and agricultural products; organize evaluation and classification of OCOP products to ensure strictness, objectivity, and compliance with regulations...

“Nam Giang’s functional sectors will strive to do better in forecasting, information, planning, and planning management in developing agricultural products, building brands for OCOP products; at the same time, soon forming a tight production chain and expanding the market.

Implement the “4-house” linkage according to the value chain, develop diverse distribution channels. Build standard raw material areas, ensure supply according to market requirements.

In particular, Nam Giang continues to create favorable conditions for entities to develop agricultural and forestry cooperatives, calling on businesses to invest and participate in deep processing of agricultural and forestry products bearing the district's OCOP product brand to supply the market..." - Mr. Chuong said.
