Yuntai Waterfall is located in the Yuntaishan Geopark, a famous scenic area that attracts millions of visitors each year in Henan Province (China). The park is ranked 5A by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of this country - the highest level in the criteria for evaluating famous scenic areas in China.
With a height of 314m, Van Dai is known as the highest waterfall in Asia. However, the waterfall that creates a scene likened to a "Milky Way" may not be as natural as tourists think.
A Chinese vlogger recently posted a video on social media platform Douyin sharing that he went to great lengths to visit a natural waterfall in Yuntaishan Geopark but was disappointed to find water flowing out of a large metal pipe at the site.
After only 2 days of posting, the video has received 73,000 views, 48,000 shares and 6,029 comments. Initially, the vlogger was criticized by many people because they thought the video content was completely fake.
According to Global Times, the park management board later issued an official response acknowledging the incident.
“The waterfall cannot be guaranteed to provide visitors with the best view due to seasonal changes. The installation of a pump and water pipe system will help increase the water pressure during the hot and dry weather from April to June,” they said, adding that the pipe is to transport spring water from the mountain, “there is absolutely no other bad water source and will not damage the natural landscape.”
In addition, the park management board also expressed gratitude for the concern, and pledged to ensure that the waterfall appears before visitors this summer in its "most perfect and natural form".
The announcement received some positive comments from netizens. One sympathetic user shared: “Ancient waterfalls also have dry and flood seasons,” while another commented: “The announcement is quite well-written and they are not denying the truth.”
