Launching a nationwide swimming exercise to prevent drowning: Raising awareness and preventing drowning for children

On the morning of May 26, in Thanh Hoa , the Summer Opening Ceremony, Children's Olympic Day and the National Campaign for Swimming to Prevent Drowning in 2024 took place. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong attended and gave a speech.

Implementing Resolution No. 08/2011 of the Politburo on strengthening the leadership of the Party, creating strong development steps in physical training and sports; National Action Program for Children for the period 2021-2030, in recent years, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has signed and implemented a coordination program with the Ministry of Education and Training; Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Ministry of Health ; Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union... on the work of protecting, caring for and educating children, especially aesthetic education, linking physical education with knowledge, ethics and social skills education for adolescents and students.

In the period of 2021 - 2023, the Youth Sports movement in schools, cultural houses, children's houses, and residential areas has developed strongly, attracting a large number of children to participate in dozens of sports , helping them form the habit of actively practicing every day to perfect their motor skills, improve their health, stature, physical strength, build a safe, healthy lifestyle, and develop comprehensively.

The Summer Opening Program and the nationwide swimming training campaign are held annually in many provinces and cities across the country with the aim of raising awareness of self-protection, equipping children with necessary knowledge and skills such as first aid, swimming skills, and drowning prevention, thereby helping children to be more physically and mentally resilient.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the Children's Olympic Day and the National Campaign to Practice Swimming to Prevent Drowning in 2024 are practical activities to concretize the Party and State's policies on children's work, continue to implement the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and respond to the 130th anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee.

Through this event, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requests that Party committees at all levels, authorities, ministries, branches, unions, social organizations, families and schools continue to pay attention to developing the sports movement for young people.

"The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that each citizen, grandparents, parents, teachers, students, teenagers and children will not only actively practice sports and swimming but also be active propagandists to encourage their families, relatives and friends to practice sports and equip themselves with knowledge and swimming skills to prevent drowning" - Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong said.
