Against Lyon's not-so-stellar performance, MU still let their opponent hold them to a 2-2 draw. Both goals conceded by the "Red Devils" were due to mistakes from goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Speaking after the match in France, coach Ruben Amorim said: "If you look at the whole season, I have made more mistakes than the players in recent months. The good news is that we have the second leg to change the situation."
"I'm quite disappointed. We should have kept the one-goal advantage. Anyway, the important thing is to look forward to the next match. One individual making a mistake means the whole team making a mistake."
Onana is disappointing. |
Before the first leg of the quarter-final in France, Onana promised to have a performance that would make MU fans proud. However, what he showed was the opposite. On social media, MU fans asked coach Amorim to give Altay Bayindir a chance in the second leg at Old Trafford.
Also in his speech after the draw, coach Amorim praised a name, Leny Yoro: "He played really well and confidently. Yoro is gradually improving his physical condition. We all see this boy's progress every day. Yoro has great potential."
In a quick post-match interview, Yoro said: "There is no time to celebrate, we want to win. The players need to give everything at Old Trafford."
The second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals between MU and Lyon takes place at 2am on April 18. This is also the only arena where the "Red Devils" still have a chance to compete for the title this season.
