On December 10, Acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong signed a decision approving the Project on developing organic rice associated with linkages in sustainable value chains for the period 2025-2030 in the province.

Accordingly, the specific goal by 2025 is to strive to increase the organic rice growing area by at least 684 hectares to achieve the target set by the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term. At the same time, concretize 1.59 km of intra-field canals to serve organic rice production and natural farming. In the period of 2026 - 2030, strive to increase the organic rice growing area by at least 1,000 hectares to have 2,000 hectares of organic rice production by 2030.
The scope of implementation is on the area that has been reviewed and planned to organize organic rice production in the districts of Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, Gio Linh, Vinh Linh and Cam Lo. The total budget for implementing the project is over 179.7 billion VND; of which the central and provincial budget is over 74.8 billion VND, the district budget is nearly 12.9 billion VND, and the budget from enterprises and the people is over 92.06 billion VND.
The project also clearly defines the content and groups of solutions for implementation, including promoting propaganda to raise awareness and capacity for people, cooperatives, and cooperative groups in promoting organic rice production; planning and completing field infrastructure; applying scientific and technological advances in production; promoting trade promotion and expanding consumption markets, along with investment solutions, effectively implementing central and local policies.
Through the project, localities focus on improving fields, forming large fields, creating favorable conditions for applying mechanization in agricultural production, reducing production costs, and increasing profits for people by at least 1.2 - 1.5 times compared to traditional production.
On the other hand, implementing the organic rice production model, aiming to expand the area, not only contributes to creating products that are beneficial to human health but also raises awareness and changes people's farming methods in sustainable agricultural production. At the same time, it will create a green, clean, beautiful environmental landscape, contributing to promoting sustainable eco-tourism.
It is known that by the end of 2024, in the whole province, the area of organic rice cultivation and natural farming on the certified area only reached 316.7 hectares (reaching 31.7% of the target set by the Resolution of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term); the area of organic rice cultivation that has not been certified is 264.77 hectares; the area of organic cultivation is 724.53 hectares.
Therefore, it is necessary to focus on implementing synchronous and drastic solutions of the project to encourage and create favorable conditions for farmers, cooperatives, cooperatives, and enterprises to expand the area of production and consumption of organic rice in the coming time.
