Mr. Zelensky: Russia suffered 8 times more casualties than Ukraine when attacking Kharkov

Responding to Vlast news agency, President Zelensky stated that Russia's attack in Kharkov caused Moscow to suffer eight times more human losses than Ukraine.

"Their breakthrough in Kharkiv, which happened more than two weeks ago, (ended) with military casualties reaching an 8:1 ratio, meaning 1 Ukrainian for every 8 Russians," Mr. Zelensky said, without providing specific evidence.

Russia has not commented on this figure. It is difficult for a third party to verify information provided by one side in the war, as it could be a psychological tactic.

Russia has previously launched large-scale attacks on the border area with Ukraine, in an effort that Moscow describes as creating a "buffer zone" to prevent Kiev from attacking Russian territory.

Russia has captured more than 10 villages in a short time and Ukraine has admitted the situation is very difficult.

On May 24, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that Kiev was pushing back Russian troops from positions on the Kharkov front through counterattacks and had achieved success in some areas.

"Ukraine's defense operation continues and our troops are repelling Russian offensive actions. The situation remains most difficult on the Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk and Kharkov fronts," the statement said.

"Over the past day, 90 clashes have taken place. Ukrainian soldiers are pushing back the Russians and on several fronts Kiev is conducting effective offensive operations. Russia is trying to use its superiority in manpower, equipment and air support," Ukraine said.

Ukraine said Russia carried out two attacks using three missiles, 33 air strikes using 47 guided bombs and 224 attacks using suicide drones. Russia also fired about 2,200 times at Ukrainian positions using various weapons.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zelensky said on May 24 that the Ukrainian army had gained operational control in areas previously raided by Russia in the northern province of Kharkov.

On the same day, acting Deputy Head of the Operations Department of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army Ihor Prokhorenko said that Ukraine had stopped Russian troops in Kharkov and begun a counterattack.

Russia declares to gain more territory in Donbass

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on May 24 that its armed forces had taken control of the Arkhangelskoye settlement in Donetsk.

Russia claims that the Tsentr combat group attacked Ukrainian troops in several villages in Donetsk and repelled three attacks, eliminating 410 Ukrainian servicemen.

Russia said it had hit Ukraine's US-made M777 howitzer, Giatsint-B howitzer and Akatsiya self-propelled howitzer, as well as destroyed a D-20 howitzer, an Msta-B howitzer, three D-30 howitzers and an M102 howitzer.

Russia claims that servicemen of the Yug combat group attacked two Ukrainian brigades near the settlements of Ostroe and Kostyantynovka in Donetsk, eliminating from the opponents 475 soldiers, 2 armored fighting vehicles and 5 other vehicles.
