The incident occurred in the match between HAGL and Hong Linh Ha Tinh, round 19 of LPBank V-League 2024/25, which took place at Pleiku Stadium on the afternoon of April 18. Due to a 0-1 loss and believing that the referee had not handled the situation correctly in not recognizing Minh Vuong's goal, Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh and a member of HAGL were reported to have entered the referee's room, using insulting and abusive words to those inside.

The match video shows that before Minh Vuong scored, Dung Quang Nho had impacted Tan Tai's supporting leg. The referee's decision was therefore considered correct.

A separate report from the Organizing Committee also said that not stopping at insulting the referee, Mr. Vu Tien Thanh also made vague remarks aimed at VPF Vice President Nguyen Quoc Hoi, "Mr. Hoi came, so there was trouble...". Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoi was assigned by VPF to watch this match.

On the morning of April 21, the VFF Disciplinary Board analyzed the incident and issued a penalty according to Article 40 of the Disciplinary Regulations, fining Mr. Vu Tien Thanh 20 million VND and suspending him from duty for 4 matches in tournaments organized by VFF. Also related to the incident, Head of HAGL Delegation Nguyen Tan Anh was fined 15 million VND and suspended from duty for the next 3 matches.

Coach Vu Tien Thanh's violations will affect HAGL's image.

Speaking to Tien Phong, a member of the VFF Disciplinary Board said that Mr. Vu Tien Thanh has repeatedly violated regulations, attacked referees and tournament officials, and affected the image of Vietnamese football. “Mr. Vu Tien Thanh’s repeated actions not only affect the image of Vietnamese football but also set a bad example for young players. I think that a team with a rich tradition like HAGL should not let similar stories happen. If everyone reacts like that, the tournament will no longer have rules and regulations,” he said.

In the past, coach Vu Tien Thanh repeatedly insulted referees and was punished by the VFF. Many people are worried that the image of HAGL, which is closely associated with Mr. Duc's desire to play beautiful football, will be affected.
