(CLO) The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency arrested 32,809 immigrants between January 20 and March 10, according to an announcement on March 12. This number is more than double the daily arrest rate under the Joe Biden administration.
Compared to last year under the Biden administration, ICE arrested an average of 255 people per day. While that’s a significant increase, it still falls short of President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to launch “the largest criminal deportation program in American history,” which has been compared to “Operation Wetback” in 1954, when about 1 million immigrants were arrested.
At the current daily rate, over a four-year term, more than 950,000 arrests could be made, although this does not mean all will be deported.

According to analysts, there are more than 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters on January 29 that the Trump administration considers all undocumented immigrants criminals "because they have violated the laws of our country."
Leaders of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE say they have found that the Biden administration manipulated ICE arrest data to mislead the public. Officials accuse the previous administration of “cooking the numbers,” reporting tens of thousands of arrests while in reality releasing many people back into the community under a “catch and release” policy.
Of the arrests since Mr. Trump’s second term began on Jan. 20, 1,555 involved suspected gang members, 44 involved foreign fugitives, and 39 involved known or suspected terrorists, according to ICE officials.
The detention centers currently house 47,600 undocumented immigrants, reaching capacity. Officials said they are working with the U.S. Department of Defense to continually expand and secure more space to hold illegal immigrants.
