(CLO) President-elect Donald Trump is planning to issue a series of more than 25 executive orders and directives just hours after taking office on January 20. The aim is to reshape the United States on many issues, from immigration to energy.
Trump has said he wants to make a “big splash” on his first day, exercising executive power more forcefully and quickly than he did in his first term, according to a source. The exact number of executive orders he plans to issue has not been disclosed, but it could be more than 25.
While Republican presidents typically issue a handful of executive orders on their first day in office, Joe Biden issued 17 executive orders on his first day in 2021, most of them aimed at reversing Trump policies.

“The American people can count on him to use executive power from day one to deliver on his campaign promises,” a Trump spokesman said.
Presidents often use executive orders to quickly implement campaign promises and set policy goals without going through the lengthy legal process in Congress. However, these orders can be overturned by the courts and require congressional approval for funding.
Mr Trump’s team is relying on draft orders provided by think tanks such as the America First Policy Institute, the Conservative Cooperative Institute and the Heritage Foundation, which have supported his policies.
Trump's first day in office is expected to feature executive orders focused on reversing many of the previous administration's policies and stemming a new wave of migration along the southern US border with Mexico.
He is expected to sign executive orders giving immigration officials more power to detain people without criminal records, send more troops to the US-Mexico border and restart construction of a border wall.
Mr Trump will boost energy production, including supporting extraction methods like “drill, drill, drill” and “hydraulic fracking,” which were among his campaign pledges.
In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," Trump said he plans to take executive action to end birthright citizenship for people born on U.S. soil, regardless of whether their parents have legal immigration status.
