Mr. Trump: Opponents no longer respect America

Former US President Donald Trump warned the world was on the brink of disaster after Iran launched missiles at Israel.

“Iran just launched 181 ballistic missiles at Israel,” Trump told supporters at a campaign rally in Waunakee, Wisconsin, on October 1. “I’ve been talking about World War III for a long time and I don’t want to predict it because it always comes true.”

The Republican presidential candidate said the world was on the brink of a “global catastrophe” and criticized the current administration’s foreign policy for allowing the war in the Middle East to escalate.

Iranian state television confirmed on October 2 that the country had launched 200 ballistic missiles toward Israel. The attack came shortly after the US issued a warning. Israel said 181 missiles were launched and most were intercepted. White House officials assessed that the attack appeared to have been ineffective, although the extent of casualties was not yet known.

After the attack, Mr. Trump sought to highlight the idea that hostile countries did not respect the current administration in the US and led to an escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

“That’s why Israel has just been attacked. The so-called enemy no longer respects our country. If I were in charge, today’s attack on Israel would never have happened… If I win, we will have peace in the world again. I guarantee we will have peace again. And if Kamala Harris gets another four years, unimaginable, right? There will be fire all over the world,” he said.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have not commented on the statements.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the US military coordinated with Israel to respond to the attack. He said President Biden and Vice President Harris monitored the attack and the response from the White House Situation Room.

“There will be serious consequences for this attack and we will work with Israel to make that happen,” Mr. Sullivan stressed.

President Biden said he had directed the US military to actively support Israel's defense. He said the parties were discussing how to respond and the consequences for Iran remained to be determined.

Ms. Harris issued a statement supporting Mr. Biden’s decision to support Israel. She criticized Iran’s “reckless” attack, saying it demonstrated that the country is a “destabilizing and dangerous force” in the region. “We will continue to work with our allies and partners to counter Iran’s aggressive behavior and hold them accountable,” the vice president said.
