Mr Trump has threatened to direct the US Justice Department to prosecute Google criminally if he is elected president, accusing the company of unfairly publishing negative stories about him but not negative stories about his 2024 rival Kamala Harris.

The complaints were made in a sudden post on the social network Truth Social on Friday (September 27). “It has been determined that Google illegally used a system to only reveal and display negative stories about Donald J Trump, some of which were created for this purpose while simultaneously revealing only positive stories about Kamala Harris,” Mr Trump said in the post.
“This is ILLEGAL, and hopefully the Department of Justice will criminally prosecute them for their blatant Interference in this Election. If not, and in accordance with the Laws of our Nation, I will order their prosecution, when I am elected and become President of the United States,” Trump added.
Google said it did not manipulate search results to favor one party. “Both campaign sites consistently appeared at the top of search results for popular and relevant search queries,” the company stressed in a statement.
Still, conservatives have long complained that Google's search results unfairly favor Democrats. The right-wing media research center MRC has previously published reports claiming that Google favors Democrats.
The Trump campaign also criticized the Harris campaign for using Google's "sponsored" feature to promote positive news from media outlets, but rewriting headlines in a way that favored the vice president.
This month, in another Truth Social post, Mr. Trump threatened to criminally prosecute any lawyers, donors, political activists and others he believes are involved in election fraud against him if he wins the presidency in November.
During a press conference on Thursday, Mr. Trump announced that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should face criminal prosecution for failing to stop the attack on the Capitol on January 6, which was carried out by his own supporters in an attempt to stop the transfer of power after the 2020 election.
