Yonhap news agency reported that on August 30, during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania - an important battleground state - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump once again boasted about his personal relationship with Chairman Kim Jong-un, saying that "getting along" with the North Korean leader is a "good thing".

Mr Trump also referred to himself as the first person to visit the village of Panmunjom on the border between the two Koreas in June 2019 and briefly crossed the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea.

Meanwhile, in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on August 22, Ms. Harris took aim at Mr. Trump by emphasizing that she would not "get along" with Mr. Kim Jong-un.

The two candidates' statements show their different visions of diplomacy toward North Korea.

While Mr. Trump may revive personal diplomacy toward Pyongyang to resolve the North Korean nuclear dilemma, Ms. Harris is seen as favoring an approach focused on cooperation with allies and partners to address the growing threats on the Korean Peninsula.

Regarding the US election situation, public opinion polls show that Republican candidate Trump is being led by his Democratic opponent Harris in some states he lost in 2020 by similar margins.

The Emerson College/The Hill poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris holding a narrow lead in Georgia (49% to 48%), Michigan (50% to 47%) and Nevada (49% to 48%).

According to a Fox News poll, Ms. Harris also leads in the states of Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.

Meanwhile, a new USA Today/Suffolk University poll shows Harris leading Trump 48%-43% nationally, with support among Hispanic, black, and low-income voters the biggest factor pushing Vice President Harris to the top spot.
