Mr. Hue said that for more than 30 years, he and his children have not been issued identification papers because their Vietnamese or Cambodian nationality has not been determined, so it is very difficult every time they leave the locality.
He and his son also cannot have their names on any vehicle registration or real estate documents because they do not have any identification papers.
"Now, with the new Identity Card Law, being issued with an identity card, my children and I feel more secure in our work and life. I am very happy, thank the State and the police very much," Mr. Hue confided.
From 7:00 a.m. today, the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order of Kien Giang Provincial Police and the police of 15 districts and cities have started issuing ID cards to children under 6 years old, from 6 to under 14 years old, from 14 years old and above, and issuing ID certificates to people of Vietnamese origin whose nationality has not been determined.
At the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, Kien Giang Provincial Police at 4 Ly Thuong Kiet (Vinh Thanh Ward, Rach Gia City), from early morning, there were quite a few people queuing up to apply for ID cards. Among them were many citizens under 14 years old, a new category stipulated in the ID Law.
At Phu Quoc International Airport, Phu Quoc City Police organized the issuance of certificates for Vietnamese people whose nationality has not been determined.
To ensure all conditions for the new mission, early in the morning of July 1, Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong, Deputy Director of Kien Giang Provincial Police, chaired the launching ceremony to collect identification documents and identification certificates.
Colonel Truong requested the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order and the police of districts and cities to concentrate maximum forces and means to organize the collection of ID card and ID certificate applications according to the 2023 ID Law.
In addition, strengthen the dissemination of regulations, documents guiding implementation, new points of the Law on Identification, iris biometrics and the superiority of the Law on Identification.
The 2023 Law on Identification has many new points compared to the 2014 Law on Citizen Identification, including switching from issuing citizen identification cards to identity cards; issuing identity certificates to people of Vietnamese origin whose nationality has not been determined.
