Russian Language Olympiad - intellectual playground for young people who love Russian

NDO - Six winners of the 2nd International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students in 2024 (three from specialized high schools and three from universities) will receive scholarships to participate in the "Summer Language Internship Course" at the AX Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language (Moscow, Russian Federation).


On November 13, in Hanoi, the Award Ceremony of the 2nd International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students and trainees in 2024 took place. The competition was organized by the Pushkin Institute under the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training , and the Federal State Budgetary Higher Education Institution “A.X. Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language” with the support of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Russian Language Olympic Competition aims to continue to promote the Russian language in Vietnam; encourage and increase motivation to learn Russian and study abroad in the Russian Federation for Vietnamese students.

Deputy Minister of Science and HigherEducation of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky sent a congratulatory video.

In his welcoming speech to the Olympiad participants, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky emphasized that Russian is an effective way to build relationships between countries, especially in the context of diplomacy between Russia and Vietnam.

He emphasized that the number of candidates registering for the Russian Language Olympiad this year (740 students) is nearly double that of last year (440 students). This demonstrates the growing demand for learning Russian and learning about Russian culture in Vietnam. He said that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation is ready to promote the development of cooperation in the field of education between the two countries.

Congratulating the Pushkin Institute for successfully organizing the Olympic, and the students who won the competition and had the opportunity to go to Russia to experience, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training, sent her thanks to the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education for investing funds to organize the Russian Language Olympic for Vietnamese students.

This year, the competition started in September 2024. 740 students from Vietnamese educational institutions registered to participate in the Qualifying Round, including 394 students from 11 specialized high schools, 346 students from 6 specialized universities and 5 non-specialized universities nationwide. 80 students were selected for the Final Round, which took place directly at the Institute on November 11 and 12.

The six winners will receive free scholarships to participate in the “Summer Language Internship Course” at the AX Pushkin National Institute of Russian Language. For students, they are Bui Minh Anh (Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, Hai Duong); Tran Gia Khanh (Foreign Language University High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University); Pham Thanh Long (Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Nam Dinh). For university students, they are three students: Dinh Ngoc Lan (Foreign Language University - Hanoi National University); Hoang Anh Quan (Le Quy Don Technical University); Duong Nguyen Thi Minh Thu (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh National University).

Bui Minh Anh, a 12th grade student from Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, Hai Duong, was moved to say that when he heard the Organizing Committee announce his name, he felt like he was about to burst into tears, because this year there were many talented students participating in the Olympics. When participating in the competition, he told himself that he had to try and make a lot of effort to compete with his friends.

Right after hearing her name as the First Prize winner, Minh Anh had an idea in her head about her journey to Russia next year. She said she would visit her favorite places that she had learned about through books, lectures and videos, and then come back to tell her friends about her interesting experiences in the capital city of Moscow. Thank you to the Organizing Committee for organizing the Russian Language Olympiad, opening up opportunities for students to go to Russia and experience it firsthand. Minh Anh hopes that after the trip, she will continue to have the opportunity to study at a university in Moscow, majoring in economics.

Earlier, at the beginning of the Award Ceremony, Honorary Judge of the Olympic Finals, the wife of the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Elena Bezdetko, introduced the traditional costumes of Russia. She emphasized that the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam always pays attention to promoting the Russian language and culture in Vietnam, and today's event is an opportunity for her to introduce to Vietnamese friends the traditional costumes of her country.

Within the framework of the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates to Vietnamese Russian linguists who participated in the advanced course “Application of modern teaching technologies in practice at different stages of teaching Russian as a foreign language”, lasting from June to the end of August 2024.

Previously, within the framework of the Olympic Finals, the Organizing Committee also held a seminar for Southeast Asian Russian linguists with the participation of Russian linguists from Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mohd Ali Johar Bin Mohd Denny, Russian language lecturer, founder of the Center for Russian-Borneo Studies, Malaysia, thanked the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam for supporting the organization of the seminar for Southeast Asian Russian linguists, and thanked the Pushkin Institute for creating a great opportunity for teachers and lecturers in the Southeast Asian region to exchange experiences in teaching Russian.
