This year's Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 17th (lunar calendar August 15th). Many families have the joy of buying mooncakes early without waiting until the day is near.
Enjoy early, order as gifts for friends and partners
These days, walking around many large and small streets in Ho Chi Minh City, stalls selling moon cakes have reappeared, signaling the approaching full moon season of the 8th lunar month. In many other localities such as Hanoi, Da Nang, etc., this market has also begun to stir.
The special thing is that many people are also eager, buying cakes and enjoying them early, instead of waiting until the day is near. Not to mention, many people also order large quantities to give as gifts.
“We work for a travel company. It’s true that business is a bit difficult this year, but we still give moon cakes to our partners to remember each other,” said Ms. Tran Thanh Ngan (HCMC).
On this occasion, many big brands offer cakes with a variety of fillings, suitable for many different tastes and needs such as: mixed roasted chicken, shark fin, bird's nest, lotus seeds, green beans, red apples, mixed vegetarian...
In the retail and supermarket channels, the moon cake market also has many notable points.
Typically, this year, in addition to traditional cakes from long-standing brands such as Kinh Do, Nhu Y, Dai Phat... for customers who like familiar flavors, the private label brand Co.op under the Saigon Co.op retail system also introduced to consumers fresh moon cakes from Co.op Bakery to keep up with the current healthy eating trend.
“The unique feature of Co.op Bakery's fresh mooncake line is that it does not contain preservatives, so it is at its best quality within 10 days from the date of production.
At the same time, the cake is made entirely by hand, using quality ingredients, reducing sugar, creating a sweet taste, helping consumers feel secure in their choice" - Ms. Ho Thi Hong Dao, Acting Marketing Director of Saigon Co.op, said.

Be careful of smuggled cakes
Since the beginning of August 2024, authorities have continuously detected and punished many cases related to smuggling of moon cakes.
Typically, on August 20, Market Management Team No. 5 (Hanoi Market Management Department) just launched a general inspection and review of the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival market, discovered nearly 5,000 smuggled cakes, and forced them to be destroyed. In mid-August, Market Management Team No. 3 (Da Nang) also discovered 1,800 smuggled moon cakes from China.
Faced with the general situation, the General Department of Market Management has proposed that, before the Mid-Autumn Festival, units inspect moon cake production facilities, focusing on the origin of raw materials used to produce the cakes.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the forces inspected businesses, agents, and stores. Then, they focused on collecting and handling expired products and products that did not meet quality standards. This was to protect the legitimate rights and health of consumers, helping to make the family reunion more complete.
