A recent report by the Vietnam Circular Agriculture Association said: In 2024, it has coordinated with the Que Lam Group and other organizations and localities to build a system of households linking organic agricultural economics and circular economy according to the value chain in many provinces and cities across the country.

In particular, the biosafety livestock farming chain that the Circular Agriculture Association in collaboration with the Que Lam Group has built has become a solution for household farming, cooperatives, and small businesses.

Specifically, in 2024, 23 cooperatives with 1,338 households were established; 8 groups of households with 129 households; 6 enterprises and 100 households directly linked with the Que Lam Group, bringing the total number of households linked to the organic agricultural economy and the circular value chain of Que Lam in the whole country to 1,570 households.

From small and proven effective models, the pig farming movement according to the 5-no standard has continuously spread strongly in localities from North to South. Typically in Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Lai Chau, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Hue city, Dong Nai, Soc Trang... The total herd of organic livestock and poultry, circular economy has increased to 484 sows, 7,385 pigs. Along with that, the organic farming model in other livestock such as cows, ducks, chickens... is continuously expanded.

Mr. Hoang Minh Tam is the first person to switch from traditional farming to organic, biosafety farming in Yen Lap district, Phu Tho province.

Mr. Tam said: At the end of 2021, I was fortunate to visit the livestock and crop models of Que Lam Group and was really happy to find the livestock farming method I wanted. That is, livestock farming does not pollute the environment like traditional farming methods, creates clean products, and brings value to the community.

With a barn area of about 300m2, in 2024, Mr. Tam's family will raise 105 pigs according to the 5-no standard: no lean meat additives, no irrigation water, no industrial feed, no growth stimulants, no environmental pollution...

After deducting the investment costs, each pig helps Mr. Tam's family earn a profit of 1.5 to 2 million VND. In addition, thanks to the use of microbiological technology in animal husbandry, Mr. Tam also collected 24 tons of bedding, sold 14 tons to the company, and used the rest to fertilize the plants in the garden.

“The main thing is that the biosafety farming model does not cause any pollution, both protecting the health of livestock and helping to preserve the surrounding environment. This is the most suitable model for household farming,” Mr. Tam said excitedly.

Similarly, Mr. Vo Van Thang is also a pioneer in Cam Minh commune (Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province) converting from traditional livestock farming to organic livestock farming with Que Lam Group.

After 3 years of implementation, from the initial model of only 5 sows and 100 pigs, after being trained in skillful breeding techniques and having clear economic, social and environmental efficiency, Mr. Thang boldly increased the herd size to 10 sows and 200 pigs/year.

“I see five very practical benefits in the process of raising pigs according to the organic value chain,” Mr. Thang affirmed.

Firstly, this is an advanced, proven effective farming process that is very easy to implement on a household scale.

Second, biosafety farming helps families save time and money in caring for and cleaning barns because they do not have to clean by flushing the barn with water. Each day, it only takes about 3 hours to care for, feed, and turn the bedding in the barn.

Third is to ensure environmental hygiene because of using probiotic pig feed. Pig manure is also treated with probiotics, eliminating odors, eliminating the need to bathe pigs, flush pens, and discharge water outside, causing environmental pollution, easily causing disease outbreaks, and affecting the lives of neighbors.

Fourth, we can take advantage of organic fertilizer sources to fertilize, grow vegetables and fruit trees very well and safely. My family has 3 sao of peanuts, corn and nearly 50 purple star apple trees, now completely using homemade microbial fertilizer.

Fifth, this farming model helps pigs grow well and is completely disease-free. Recently, African swine fever and other diseases have occurred in Cam Minh commune, causing over 90% of pigs to die, but thanks to organic farming, the family's pigs are still safe.

In addition, the linkage method is such that businesses invest in stable input breeds and feed, provide technical training and guidance, and purchase output at stable prices, so despite market fluctuations, families still make a profit of 1.5 to 2 million VND per animal.

Ms. Dang Thi Hieu (Thuy Bang ward, Hue city) is the first person to raise pigs according to the 5-no standard in the ancient capital.

Participating in the Que Lam organic pig farming chain since 2018, up to now, Ms. Hieu's family's pig herd has developed stably with a scale of 10 sows, 200 pigs, selling over 18 tons of live pigs each year, purchased by the group at a stable price, earning a profit of over 200 million VND.

After 8 years of linking to raise pigs according to the organic process in Que Lam, especially experiencing the African swine fever "pandemic" in 2019 but still being safe, Ms. Hieu shared: In addition to the 5 obvious effects that other models have shown, the family's biosafety farming model is also a model, annually training hundreds of farming households in organic pig farming from Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Hue City, Dong Nai...

Talking to the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper , Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Que Lam Group, Chairman of the Vietnam Circular Agriculture Association, the "father" of the 5-zero standard pig farming model, said: With more than 30 years of experience working with farmers, I understand that to teach farmers how to do agriculture, we must have a model and a set of solutions. Farmers must see the practical benefits and practical effectiveness, then they will change and follow.

By building models that have been summarized in practical science, we hope to build a set of livestock solutions aimed at households, cooperatives, and small businesses. Because creating livelihoods for these subjects is the realization of the policy of "leaving no one behind" of our Party and State.
