Before becoming involved in the bird's nest farming business, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Loi invested in building and worked as Principal of Anh Duong Private Kindergarten.
In 2015, when introduced to the model of raising swiftlets, Ms. Loi took the time to learn, research documents, grasp information and decided to hire Phuong Dong Bird's Nest Company Limited (Da Nang City) to survey and design a house to raise swiftlets.
From savings and loans of more than 700 million VND, Ms. Loi invested in building a 2-storey bird's nest house with a total area of 200 m2 in Le Duan alley (group 8, An Phu ward).
The birdhouse is solidly built, with a layer of soundproof and heat-insulating foam inside. Each floor is equipped with a misting system to stabilize the temperature and humidity suitable for the bird's living environment; surveillance cameras are installed inside and outside; the ceiling is covered with squares of imported wood that have been treated to be waterproof and prevent termites for the bird to nest.
“In addition to installing sound-generating equipment outside to attract swiftlets, on each floor, I installed a speaker system inside that regularly emits chirping sounds so that the swiftlets can nest in peace,” said Ms. Loi.

According to Ms. Loi: At first, due to unsuitable techniques, the number of swiftlets coming to nest and roost could be counted on the fingers. She had to change and adjust the sound system and create a suitable environment. In the third year, the number of swiftlets breeding and coming to nest increased day by day. From then on, Ms. Loi was able to harvest the nests.
In order to expand the scale of bird's nest farming, in 2021, Ms. Loi transferred Anh Duong Private Kindergarten for more than 1 billion VND to buy 100 square meters of land in the area allowed to build a bird's nest house in An Thuong 1 village, Song An commune.
“Learning from the experience of the first birdhouse, with the second birdhouse, I invested in a systematic construction, sound system, and standard machinery. Therefore, after only 1 year, there were bird’s nests to harvest,” Ms. Loi said excitedly.
Currently, Ms. Loi's two birdhouses have more than 10,000 swiftlets making nests. In 2023, she will collect about 100 kg of raw bird's nests. She said: "I sell raw bird's nests for 18-22 million VND/kg, and processed bird's nests for 24-35 million VND/kg.
In addition, I also make bird's nest with rock sugar and cordyceps, bird's nest with rock sugar and chia seeds in jars, and fresh bird's nest packaged in 100 gram sizes to diversify products and meet customer needs; bringing in nearly 2 billion VND/year in revenue for my family."
At the end of 2023, Ms. Loi established My Loi Bird's Nest One Member Co., Ltd. and My Loi Bird's Nest processing factory; at the same time, invested in machinery, tools for preliminary processing, packaging, and product labeling.
Ms. Loi affirmed: To preserve the flavor and nutrition of bird's nest, the Company processes and prepares it entirely by hand. Currently, there are 10 workers specializing in picking feathers and processing bird's nest with an income of 6-10 million VND/person/month.

From 2022 to present, Ms. Trinh Thi Anh Nguyet (An Phong village, Phu An commune, Dak Po district) has received raw bird's nests from My Loi Bird's Nest One Member Co., Ltd. to process at home.
At first, Ms. Nguyet was not familiar with the work, so Ms. Loi guided Ms. Nguyet through the soaking process, using tweezers to pick out each piece of impurities and tiny feathers until the bird's nest was clean and white.
“At first, I worked at Ms. Loi’s house. Then I brought the work home to take care of my children. Every month, I earn 5-7 million VND,” Ms. Nguyet said.
Commenting on Ms. Loi's bird's nest production and business model, Mr. Truong Quoc Thang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of An Khe town - said: Ms. Nguyen Thi My Loi is a member of the Executive Committee of the Farmers' Association of the town for the term 2023-2028. In recent years, Ms. Loi's model of raising and processing bird's nests has brought high income to her family, opening up a new direction in animal husbandry for farmers in the area.
In the period of 2017-2023, Ms. Loi's family achieved the title of excellent production and business household at the provincial level. In addition to good production and business, she also actively participated in patriotic emulation movements launched by the locality; contributed to various funds, and helped poor and disadvantaged households in the area.
“In the future, the Association will coordinate with specialized departments and divisions to guide Ms. Loi in completing the OCOP product registration procedures for bird’s nest products. At the same time, encourage the family to diversify and improve the quality of bird’s nest products, creating more jobs for members and local workers,” Mr. Thang informed.
