Up to this point, Long An province has harvested nearly 110,000/222,124 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice 2024, with an estimated yield of 5.75 tons/ha and output of 628,988 tons.

The 2024 Autumn-Winter rice crop harvested over 7,000/33,444ha, with an estimated yield of 5.7 tons/ha and output of 40,363 tons. Farmers are excited thanks to favorable weather and high rice prices.

In many localities, farmers are urgently plowing to welcome flood water to deposit alluvium, preparing for the next winter-spring crop.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district, Long An province) said: "I have just harvested more than 3 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice, with a yield of about 6 tons/ha, with a selling price of 8,500 VND/kg, earning a profit of more than 30 million VND/ha.

Currently, the floodwaters have reached the foot of my family's rice fields. I am taking advantage of the opportunity to clean and weed, plow the land, and open the embankment to let the floodwaters into the fields. Hopefully this year the floods will be big, and there will be a lot of alluvium deposited so that the next winter-spring crop will be successful."

Mr. Nguyen Cong Dang (Vinh Tri commune, Vinh Hung district, Long An province) said, "Plowing and plowing flooded land not only helps to wash away toxins in the soil, kill weeds, rice husks, and decompose straw, but also makes the soil more fertile and rich. Currently, my family's 6 hectares of land have been plowed and cleaned to prepare for flood discharge to receive alluvium."

Farmers in the Dong Thap Muoi districts of Long An province plow flooded land to receive alluvium.

According to Tran Van Bang, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Hung district (Long An province), up to now, farmers in the district have completely harvested 28,624 hectares of rice in the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop.

In recent days, flood water levels on rivers, canals and streams in the district have increased rapidly.

To make full use of the benefits brought by floods, the district's Department of Agriculture recommends that farmers plow the land after harvesting the Summer-Autumn rice crop.

For areas in the dike system, flood water should be allowed in to soak, collect alluvium, and cut off the bridge that spreads pests and diseases. This is a simple and easy-to-implement measure, but the results are very high.

According to the forecast of Long An Hydrometeorological Station, the flood peak in 2024 at upstream stations (inland stations in the northern part of the province) will be at or higher than alert level I in low-lying areas.

In Tan Hung district, it reaches 2.50-2.70m, in Vinh Hung district, it reaches 2.50-2.70m, in Moc Hoa district, on the Vam Co Tay river, it reaches 1.40-1.60m, 0.3-0.5m higher than the flood peak in 2023.

The time of the highest flood peak in 2024 in the northern upstream districts of the province is from mid to late October 2024.
