(Dan Tri) - Since the historic flood in 1999, people in the Hoa Duong estuary (Thua Thien Hue) have recorded rising sea levels and deep flooding.
On the morning of October 27, due to the influence of storm Tra Mi (storm No. 6), the Thuan An sea area (Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province) had heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, causing high waves to flood the beaches of Thuan An ward (Hue city) and Phu Thuan commune (Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province). Seawater flows through the protective forest behind the two beaches of Thuan An and Phu Thuan, overflows onto National Highway 49B and flows into Tam Giang Lagoon. Mr. Nguyen Thai (65 years old, residing in Hai Thanh residential group, Thuan An ward, Hue city), said that since the historic flood in 1999, this area has not recorded such a high sea level and deep flooding. Rising sea levels have flooded a residential area in Hai Thanh residential group (Thuan An ward), leaving residents unable to react. Ms. Le Thi Hanh, a resident of Hai Thanh residential group, said the water rose so quickly and was up to her chest that her family did not have time to clean up their belongings and had to evacuate urgently.
Many people do not forget their family's pet dogs while fleeing the flood.
Storm Tra Mi caused further destruction to Phu Thuan and Thuan An beaches, when this stretch of coastline had already suffered severe erosion. Garbage surrounds people in Hai Thanh residential group, Thuan An ward, Hue city. Many other roads and residential areas in Thua Thien Hue province were also flooded due to the impact of storm Tra Mi. Trees were uprooted and broken on many roads in Thua Thien Hue. Newly planted trees were uprooted and scattered along Phu My - Thuan An road, a road with a total investment of more than 370 billion VND.
