Student Valerie Do recounts mistake when initially applying to the University of Miami

Sharing on TikTok, the Vietnamese female student confessed that before coming to the US, she did not even know about the state of Ohio, let alone the fact that Miami University is located in the Midwestern state of the US, according to The New York Post on October 14.

"I think that university is in Miami (Florida)," Ms. Do shared in a clip posted on TikTok, which has received more than 1.6 million views.

"There's no beach here, just cornfields and nowhere," the student said. She only realized the truth when the school sent her admission notice.

Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has about 15% international students.

In a later video clip, Do explained that she ended up at the University of Miami on a scholarship, majoring in commerce.

"I love my school, I love everything about it," she said. "Miami gives me that authentic American college experience that I've always been looking for, like in the movies. I grew up watching 'Legally Blonde,' 'Mean Girls,' 'Bring It On,' 'Animal House,' and stuff like that, and Miami is perfect for me," she said.

Many commenters said they knew other international students in similar situations. "It's a great university, but unfortunately it's not near a beach," commented one named Jacob.
