Poor female student who lost her mother just received donation money and was scammed by a bad guy via text message

A poor female student at a teacher training college lost her mother. Just as her teacher called for donations to help, a bad guy impersonated the teacher and texted her to scam her. Luckily, she was alert.

On December 16, Mr. Truong The Quy (lecturer at the University of Education, Hue University) said that he had just been impersonated by a bad guy to scam.

Accordingly, at the school, there is a female student Hoang Thi Bao Vy (3rd year chemistry student) who has an extremely difficult situation. Vy has no father, her mother, Mrs. HTL (60 years old, a street lottery ticket seller) unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident.

Vy's family is among the poorest in Quang Vinh commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue.

After Vy's mother passed away, teacher Quy posted on his personal Facebook page calling for help for her.

A few hours later, Vy received a message from a Zalo account named Truong The Quy saying that a charity group had donated money to her.

This person said that the charity group would come directly to Vy's house to give cash and asked her to transfer 50 million VND (the amount that Mr. Quy had raised from many people and transferred to Vy's bank account in advance) to the account number of the charity group mentioned above.

Feeling suspicious, Vy contacted Mr. Quy again and discovered that the Zalo account mentioned above was impersonating him.

Mr. Quy said he was extremely angry when he read the messages from the scammers who impersonated him. "It is so insensitive to take advantage of other people's pain for personal gain," Mr. Quy said.

Hoang Thi Bao Vy was one of the poor students who overcame difficulties and received the 2021 Support to School scholarship from Tuoi Tre newspaper.
