Affectionately nicknamed “Wushu Beauty” by her fans, Thuy Hien was once a potential seed of the Vietnamese Wushu community in the 1990s - 2000s. The audience was deeply impressed and remembered her through the image of a female Wushu player with a petite figure, but possessing the spirit of a warrior who longed to bring pride to the country.
Born into a family with a tradition of sports, Miss Thuy Hien has a long history of outstanding achievements, along with "unprecedented" glory for the Vietnamese sports community. She currently holds 7 World Gold Medals, 2 Asian Gold Medals, 1 ASIAD Silver Medal, 8 SEA Games Gold Medals and has also been a typical Athlete of Vietnamese Sports for 6 times and was honored to be awarded the First, Second, Third Class Labor Medals...
Thuy Hien has lived up to the image of a “Wushu Queen” as she always carries within her a strong and abundant source of energy. Despite suffering many injuries and retiring, she continues in her new role as a Wushu Coach and Referee, quietly contributing to the training of the new generation and the development of this sport in her homeland. Thuy Hien’s efforts, perseverance and passion have left a “golden” mark in the history of Vietnamese sports.
To reach the peak of her career, few people know that Thuy Hien also had to go through a difficult time. “As an athlete, I have had too many painful lessons, failures, successes, grievances, deprivations and especially more injuries than my peers. I was born without good health and innate flexibility like my friends when I was first recruited professionally. Even foreign experts did not have a favorable view of me. Looking back on that process, I see that whether it is a sports career or all other professions, if we apply that great passion to practice every hour and every minute, with all our abilities, no matter what the results are, we will never feel regret. Every effort, effort and perseverance is the pride of ourselves, our family and our country” - Thuy Hien confided.
Sharing the reason for deciding to participate in Chi Dep Dap Gio 2024, Thuy Hien said: “I want to inspire everyone, especially women or families with people suffering from depression. I want to help them have more spiritual encouragement to fight that disease. We all need to be open, accept that this is a disease that can be overcome when we open our hearts to share and learn about this disease seriously. Life now has a lot of pressure, even everyone has obsessions, long-term injuries, but because we bury it too well, the accumulation over time will not make these pressures disappear but increase more and more, leading to us getting sick without knowing it. There are many people who do not accept that they are sick and the people around them do not know how to encourage them in time, so many unfortunate things happen. I am a very sick person, from the small signs of the disease until now, it has been nearly 20 years. When I was hospitalized, my condition was very serious. I had to take twice, even three times more medicine than a normal sick person. But today, thanks to my relatives and friends taking care of me and encouraging me properly, I have gradually recovered. I came to this program, standing here after so many hardships, just to hope to give the community the values of my efforts and experiences that I have personally experienced."
Coming to Chi Dep Dap Gio 2024, former wushu athlete Thuy Hien wants to convey positive messages to women out there, she hopes that women must always be truly confident and believe in their ability to realize their dreams. Throughout her career, the spirit of sports training and national spirit have always been honed by her to serve as a guiding principle in life.
