On November 8, at San Chai Primary Boarding School No. 1 (Si Ma Cai District, Lao Cai ), the Organizing Committee of the project "Connecting Warm Hands" implemented by the Central Youth Union, Thanh Nien Newspaper in collaboration with Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ Company) and the Golden Trust Fund, deployed to provide support resources to schools that were severely damaged by storm Yagi.
Although it has been 2 months since the storm, many damaged items of San Chai Primary Boarding School No. 1 have not been repaired, such as the landscape area in front of the gate and the boarding house area that is at risk of landslides, causing students to lack places to play and stay.
Students are happy to receive new backpacks and school supplies.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chung, the school's principal, said that the floods caused by storm No. 3 damaged some areas of the school, such as the front landscape area; the landscape areas and the student dormitory area also had one room eroded, making it uninhabitable at the moment.
According to Mr. Chung, 100% of the students in the school are Mong ethnic people, and their families' economic conditions are also very difficult. Despite the State's attention and support, some families still work far away, so the children have to stay at home with their grandparents and relatives, which is very difficult.
The boarding area of the students was affected by the landslide.
In particular, recently, the impact of floods has made the lives of these children's families more difficult. "Today, receiving support from the Central Youth Union, the Golden Faith Fund, PNJ Company, and Thanh Nien Newspaper, I am deeply touched. Through this, I would like to thank the units that have cared about the lives of students in the highlands," said Mr. Chung.
Teachers at the school said that the impact of the recent storm No. 3 caused many students’ houses to be flooded and eroded. The fear of the historic flood also haunted the students. However, over time and with the encouragement of teachers, the students gradually forgot about it and their smiles returned.
On the afternoon of November 8, hundreds of students were present at the yard of San Chai Primary Boarding School No. 1, eagerly receiving gifts of new school supplies. Each student was given a package of school supplies, backpacks, blankets, mattresses, warm clothes, and cash. In addition, the Organizing Committee of the "Connecting Warm Hands" project supported the cost of repairing the school with a total amount of 277 million VND.
In addition to San Chai Primary Boarding School No. 1, the organizing committee also supported two other schools in Si Ma Cai district, Lung Than Primary Boarding School No. 1 and Suoi Thau Primary Boarding School No. 1, with the amount of 484 and 547 million VND respectively. At the same time, 60 scholarships were awarded to 60 students in the province with difficult circumstances who have made great efforts in their studies.
Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Dung, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of PNJ Company and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Golden Faith Fund, shared that she was very happy to see the students happy again after the natural disaster. That shows the strong vitality of the school and the locality to overcome the natural disaster.
Ms. Dung hopes that, through the support of the "Warm Hands" project and the community, the school and locality will quickly overcome difficulties after the storm and flood, so that children can have joy when going to school.
Students' smiles have returned after the historic flood.
However, students are still lacking places to play because the school yard was damaged by storm No. 3.
