With nearly 10 years of experience growing vegetables in Tan Son town, Mr. Bui Van Nam shared: For some types of vegetables and leafy vegetables, although they are grown all year round, I especially focus on the market before, during and after Tet because they are easy to consume and have higher prices. To prepare green vegetables in time for Tet, depending on the type of vegetable, the soil improvement stage will begin in early or mid-November, planting long-term vegetables, short-term vegetables will be planted later, and the types of vegetables planted must be balanced to achieve high economic efficiency.
Mr. Bui Van Nam, Tan Son town (Ninh Son) takes care of flowers and vegetables for Tet.
On an area of 2 sao of cultivated land, Mr. Nam is growing more than ten types of vegetables such as: Chinese cabbage, lettuce, cinnamon, fish mint, onion, coriander, squash, cucumber, bitter melon, etc. According to him, growing vegetables is not difficult, the capital investment is not high, however, it is susceptible to pests and diseases and is affected by the weather quite a lot, so it must be taken care of regularly, and not overused with chemical fertilizers. In addition, he also grows more than 500 flower plants including: Chrysanthemum, marigold, and chicken color according to orders from traders and is actively taking care of them in time for Tet.
In the shallot fields in Luong Son commune, these days, people are also busy entering the harvest season. Currently, the whole commune has more than 40 hectares of shallots with high productivity. While taking care of the shallot beds in preparation for harvest, Mr. Nguyen Hai Nhat (Tan Lap 1 village) said: From the end of June, the beginning of July (lunar calendar), I started to plant 2 sao of shallots. This year, the weather is favorable so the shallots grow well, giving high productivity, and the shallots are of better quality. Currently, the purchase price of traders at the field fluctuates from 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, hopefully this price will increase by the end of the season so that people can have a little profit to enjoy Tet.
In addition to shallots, watermelons are also sold to the year-end market. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (Tra Giang village) said that this year's Tet season, she planted 2 hectares of long red watermelons, which will be harvested in about 2 weeks, so these days all family members are mobilized to the field to take care of the watermelons, monitor their size and weight to ensure timely harvest.
