After 6 years of being crowned Miss Universe Vietnam , H'Hen Nie is still one of the names that receives the attention of the audience.
The beauty is loved for always being active in community activities and making many valuable contributions to society. In 2023, H'Hen Nie also marked a turning point when challenging herself at a music show.
In a conversation at the beginning of the year with VTC News , H'Hen Nie confided that she always considers difficulties and challenges in life as opportunities and motivation to try even after turning 30.
Gain more than lose when participating in "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves"
Is participating in "Beautiful Sister Who Makes Waves" the most impressive milestone in H'Hen Nie's career in 2023?
In 2023, I have many activities related to community, environment and entertainment, in which "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" is a new challenge. For me, this is the first time I participate in a program with singing and dancing elements, and I also get to work with famous and successful showbiz beauties. This is a great opportunity that I really appreciate, and it is also a motivation to try and make an effort when I am over 30 years old.
- After a long journey in the competition, what do you think you have gained and lost?
I gained a lot and didn’t feel like I lost anything when I joined the show. First of all, I had more connections and new relationships with the beautiful ladies. In the first days of filming, I was a bit shy because I was a junior, I didn’t know what the ladies would be like, I had never or had little chance to interact with them.
After working together, we talked more and understood each other better, thanks to that the distance also shortened, I also opened up to them and received a lot of support and guidance from them.
They loved me and knew that I lacked musical experience, so they always prioritized the appropriate parts and reminded me of my weaknesses. I think if I hadn’t joined the program, I would never have had such great opportunities.
The second thing is determination. Because I am aware that I have no musical experience, I always tell myself to try harder. Especially the dancing part, having to remember the choreography and control the body flexibly to the music requires hard practice, it cannot be done in 1-2 days.
I jokingly said that participating in this program cost the most money for dance lessons. I studied with 2-3 teachers, and whenever I had time, I went to the dance studio. Thanks to that, I learned how to release my body, dance to the music and remember the moves. It was the pressure through each performance that created the motivation for me to always be in a state and mindset of trying.
- Besides the gossip about your singing voice, many people also gave you compliments about your performance ability. After the competition, does H'Hen Nie intend to change direction to become a singer?
For me, everything is fate and I don't dare to say in advance whether I will change direction or not. I believe that I will just try and test myself, if it is fate, I will develop further, if not, I will consider it as experience for myself.
After the program, I also received a few more invitations to sing, mainly for year-end events or festival programs that I was an ambassador for. I felt happy, at least when participating in the program, in addition to chatting and interacting, I could sing to contribute to the program, which was also a way to thank the organizers, thank the audience and convey the message of the program I participated in.
- If you had to describe your 2023 in 2 words, what would they be?
Respect and gratitude. I respect that 2023 gives me new opportunities, challenges, and experiences so that I can know what I can do, where my limits are, and that 30 years old is not the end of the learning, training, and improvement process. I am a person who loves to work, so having a job is very precious. I am also not afraid to try new fields because if I don't try, how will I know if I am suitable or not.
And I am grateful to 2023 for giving me many opportunities to meet new friends, trips to gain more knowledge and experience, and everyone's love.
The 2023 journey would not be complete without the support of the crew and the support and encouragement of the audience. So I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has been by my side throughout this time.
Saying I'm a tycoon is too "scary"!
2024 also marks 6 years since H'Hen Niê was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam. How has she changed in all aspects now?
This year's self has changed compared to last year, let alone 6 years. The current Hen has become more mature in her outlook on life, the way she perceives a problem, the way she observes and evaluates someone or something. When I encounter a difficulty, I will face it and calmly find a solution. Instead of being sad or gnawing at the pain, I learn how to overcome it myself.
There have been many changes in my fashion sense, I prioritize sustainable and reusable fashion, I know how to beautify myself, I am conscious of keeping fit, living healthy and eating scientifically. Compared to 6 years ago, my life is more fulfilling. I am happy with what I have. For me, that is enough and I don't want anything more.
- Audiences rumor that H'Hen Niê is a "secret tycoon", is this true?
Oh no, I am not a tycoon. I am still working hard to earn money to support my family. In particular, I want to provide a better life for my grandchildren. After working for many years, I have saved up a little money, but saying I am a tycoon is too "scary"! (laughs).
- 6 years after being crowned, you still maintain a beautiful image. However, sometimes you still cause controversy because of your somewhat tactless words. Does H'Hen Niê think this is your biggest weakness?
After each event, I appreciate and read all the comments and suggestions from the audience. I thank you for your attention, whether negative or positive, I accept them with the desire to improve myself every day.
I am not a good speaker so sometimes what I say is not good or does not please everyone. I thank everyone for their comments so that I can pay more attention and overcome those shortcomings.
- What makes you most proud of yourself?
Perhaps that is the optimistic and life-loving energy. From childhood to adulthood, I have always kept that energy. Whenever I am too tired or too sad, I find something to lift myself up. When I was young, I often talked to the plants around the house. When I grew up and went to work in the city, I learned to observe the people around me. I saw the lovely things in life and appreciated the work that helped me earn money.
Of course life also has its downsides, it also makes me hurt and scared. But at those times I will think about positive things that make me happy, think about my family, and then give myself a smile. Gradually, I know how to control my emotions and energy, only spend energy on necessary things, that is the way to maintain good energy inside me.
There is no criteria for choosing a boyfriend.
In "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves", H'Hen Nie was still emotional when she opened up about her love story. Is Hen still attached?
I am very emotional when it comes to love, and when I was talking to my sisters, suddenly the thoughts came flooding back and made me emotional. It's not that I still miss them, but those were things that happened to me, and now when I think about them, I still feel a little moved. Because my feelings were real, the memories are still there. After all, I am a woman, and when faced with love, I am a little weak.
- Is that why you haven't dared to open your heart again?
Love matters a lot. Whether you open your heart or not is not as important as when the fate comes.
- Many people say that a beauty queen's criteria for choosing a boyfriend must be very high, what about H'Hen Nie?
I don’t have any requirements or criteria for choosing a boyfriend. If he is a loving person, cares about his family and works hard, that’s a big plus. I highly value family, so I hope my boyfriend is the same.
- If you find the right person, are you willing to get married?
Now that I'm over 30, ready is probably no longer relevant, but rather do I want to get married? If I find the right person, I'm always ready to be his bride.
At home, I'm still just my parents' baby.
How do you plan to celebrate Lunar New Year this year?
Originally, I had a work plan in the US so I planned to celebrate New Year's Eve abroad, but now my work plan has changed a bit. I will still celebrate Tet at home, with my family. Actually, I always prioritize spending time with my family on the first days of the new year.
- The audience may wonder if there has been any change in H'Hen Nie's Tet before and after becoming Miss?
Honestly, nothing has changed, because when I come home, I am still my parents' baby (laughs). I think that no matter who I am or what job I do, when I come home, I am still my parents' child, an older sister to my younger siblings, a younger brother to my older siblings, an aunt to my nieces and nephews.
Hen is still Hen, still rolling up her sleeves in the kitchen cooking with everyone, cleaning the house. Sometimes when people see me at home, they won't recognize me (laughs).
- Speaking of Tet, do you have any memorable stories?
Every year, Tet is the same, many people come to my house to wish me a happy new year, sometimes standing there and taking pictures with each person one by one, like I'm at an event. But I'm not tired, I'm happy, Tet is always filled with laughter in the house, there's nothing more wonderful.
