In recent days, heavy rains and floods have caused rivers to rise, causing flooding in many places in Tam Nong district. In particular, some localities have experienced serious landslides right next to people's houses.
District leaders inspected the scene at the landslide sites.
At the scene in zone 18 of Bac Son commune, there was a landslide on the right bank of Thao river, the slide was about 35m, 20m of fence collapsed, and about 3.5m deep into the land of a household and Vuc Long pagoda.
Pointing to the area where the floodwaters had eroded deeply, swept the fence down into the river, and were approaching his house, Mr. Le Van Tinh, from Zone 18, said: “I am still worried and uneasy because the floodwaters came so quickly and rose so high. The landslide was right on the land of my house, causing my family to be unable to sleep or eat in peace for the past few days. If not handled quickly, the landslide will encroach deep into the garden and residential land, threatening the lives and property of my family.”
Authorities put up signs and stretched warning ropes at the landslide site.
In area 1, Bac Son commune also has a landslide about 150m long. Although this location was protected by a foot embankment in 2018, it has now been destroyed and washed away by river water, leading to continued landslides when the flood comes, seriously threatening the lives and activities of 5 households.
Discussing this content, Mr. Phan Kim Trong - Chairman of Bac Son Commune People's Committee said: As soon as receiving the report from the households, the commune reported to the District Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, and at the same time established 24/7 standing teams at the landslide sites; evacuated people and property of affected households to safe places; put up warning signs, stretched ropes at vulnerable locations at risk of insecurity for people to avoid, ensuring absolute safety for people and property.
The river water rose, causing landslides close to Mrs. Tran Thi Tam's house in Zone 1, Bac Son Commune.
Continuing to investigate, we learned that in Tam Nong area, landslides continued to appear on the banks of the Bua River in Te Le commune, affecting the lives and activities of 16 households in area 2 with a length of about 300m. Currently, 9 households have had landslides in the area of annual crops, 7 households have had landslides deep into auxiliary works, barns, and livestock areas with a length of about 100m.
Along with that, the Tam Cuong canal bank in Van Xuan commune also suffered landslides. Specifically, downstream, there were 2 landslides: the left bank was about 20m long, the right bank was about 50m long; upstream, the embankment bank was about 50m long, leading to the risk of landslides for agricultural production of the people in the commune.
Immediately after discovering the landslide situation in the localities, the leaders of Tam Nong district went to the scene to inspect the situation. Mr. Do Hung Son - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee informed: To ensure the safety of people and property, the district has directed the communes to urgently establish teams and teams on duty, increase patrols and control of vulnerable and landslide locations. At the same time, it is required that localities propagate, mobilize and organize the evacuation of people and property from dangerous landslide areas; notify, put up warning signs, restrict people and vehicles from entering landslide areas, arrange staff to closely monitor the landslide developments, and promptly report information according to regulations. The district has also proposed and recommended to competent authorities and functional agencies to study, consider, inspect, survey and have a plan to handle serious landslide locations immediately after the water recedes.
