Many households have escaped poverty.
In 2024, Mr. Ma Van Hieu, in Roc village, Hop Thanh commune, Son Duong district, had a stable life in a new, spacious and solid house, meeting the criteria of "3 hard: Hard foundation, hard frame - wall, hard roof". The house is the result of support from the Son Duong District Fatherland Front Committee and philanthropists, as well as the efforts of borrowing and saving thanks to the hard work of his family. With the new house, his family's material life has improved significantly. No longer having to worry about dilapidation every rainy season, Mr. Hieu and his wife have more motivation to try to work hard, take care of and raise their children, send them to school, receive medical care and strive to quickly escape poverty.
Similarly, the family of Phang Duc Canh, in Bo Ho village, Khang Nhat commune, has also risen out of poverty thanks to the support of authorities at all levels, departments and localities. Canh's family has been supported with loans to invest in building barns and buying 2 breeding cows. To date, his family's herd has grown to 5 cows. Thanks to the capital, Canh has learned how to raise cattle in a closed system, and his family's income from selling breeding cows and beef cattle has reached over 30 million VND. This has given his family more motivation to develop the economy and gradually rise out of poverty.
Many households in Bo Ho village where Mr. Canh lives have also changed their production mindset, investing in forest planting, tea growing, and cattle raising. Thanks to that, people have not only escaped poverty but also become rich on their homeland.
Diversifying poverty reduction solutions for Son Duong people
In Son Duong, the Party Committee, government, departments and localities always pay attention to poverty reduction with a multidimensional approach. In which, job creation, increasing the rate of trained workers, and creating sustainable livelihoods are important solutions.
In early 2024, the poverty rate in Son Duong had decreased to 11.85%, while the average income per capita reached 53.55 million VND/year. Last year, Son Duong was recognized as a locality that sharply reduced the number of poor households, with more than 3,200 households escaping poverty (equivalent to 6.42%), nearly double the plan. Currently, the district has nearly 6,000 poor households. In 2024, Son Duong district continues to strive for an average income per capita of 56.46 million VND/year.
Mr. Giang Tuan Anh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Duong district, assessed that the implementation of the National Target Programs (NTPs) in the district encountered many difficulties. However, with the strong determination of the authorities at all levels to narrow the gap in socio-economic life between ethnic minorities and developed economic regions, the district has issued many synchronous support policies, creating conditions for people in disadvantaged communes to have more motivation to strive to rise up. Capital from NTPs has contributed to significantly changing the appearance of the countryside, especially in terms of thinking and working methods in economic development and the lives of ethnic minorities; thousands of households have escaped poverty thanks to practical policies from this program.
Thanks to the timely application and deployment of capital sources from the National Target Program, the appearance of Son Duong district has been changing. This creates a positive motivation for socio-political organizations and people, especially the majority of ethnic minorities, to join hands with high determination to successfully complete the goals set by the 21st Son Duong District Party Congress, term 2020-2025. The district aims to strive for 100% of communes to meet new rural standards by the end of 2025, making Son Duong the first district in Tuyen Quang province to meet new rural standards.
