Researchers looked at factors including cleanliness and the proportion of florists, bakeries and perfume shops to give each city a "smell score."
Athens has the most impressive aroma
The city that rose to the top of the rankings was Athens, Greece, which offered visitors a feast for the senses, scoring 8.3 out of 10 on the scent scale.
The Greek capital is famous for its bustling street markets, the aromas of fresh produce, herbs and steaming hot delicacies. These are the scents that will follow you through the streets and corners.
Athens is also a flower paradise, with 31 flower shops and 22 perfume shops over an area of 10 km 2 , with delicate fragrances lingering in every corner.
The city's commitment to cleanliness is also reflected in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), receiving a score of 56.2.
While Athens took the top spot, many other familiar names also made the list of the world's most pleasant-smelling cities.
Paris, with its romantic atmosphere and elegant boulevards, took second place, closely followed by Zurich, famous for its cleanliness and picturesque setting.
