If nothing changes, goalkeeper Filip Nguyen will have Vietnamese citizenship in the next few days and will likely be called up to the national team by coach Philippe Troussier during the training session to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup at the end of December.
The fact that the Vietnamese national team has two quality goalkeepers, Dang Van Lam and Filip Nguyen, is really interesting. Right now, fans are eagerly waiting for the competition for the goalkeeper position between the two overseas Vietnamese goalkeepers.
Comparing professional parameters, Filip Nguyen and Dang Van Lam both have their own outstanding aspects. According to statistics, Filip Nguyen passes the ball an average of 19.7 times per match, with an accurate passing rate of 88.6%.
In some other statistics in V-League 2023/24, Filip Nguyen is also better than Dang Van Lam. In particular, this goalkeeper has very good footwork ability. This is what coach Philippe Troussier once asked Dang Van Lam to practice hard to perfect himself.
Having international competition experience, good form and highly rated professional indicators, but what Filip Nguyen lacks compared to Van Lam is that he has never played for the Vietnamese national team, and his Vietnamese language skills are limited, meaning he needs a lot of time to connect with his teammates, especially in defense.
But the important thing is that Filip Nguyen's "rival" Dang Van Lam always shows professionalism and a desire to contribute to the national team. The goalkeeper with Vietnamese-Russian blood has never been worried about the pressure of competing for a position.
Even the appearance of Filip Nguyen gives Dang Van Lam more motivation to improve himself, always ready to accept the tasks of coach Philippe Troussier in the Vietnam team.
