At around 8:30 a.m., many patients were present at the front yard of Phu Yen General Hospital to be taken home for free.
After more than a week of treatment after kidney stone surgery, Mr. Le Van Duc (68 years old, Xuan Tho 2 commune, Song Cau town) and his wife were happy to return home.
"This morning the doctor informed me that I was discharged from the hospital. I was happy but worried because my children work far away and there was no one to pick them up. My wife and I are old and don't know how to catch a bus along the way. Luckily, the hospital doctors told us there was a free bus, so we both signed up," said Mr. Duc.
Loading her luggage into the car, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam (62 years old, Mr. Duc's wife) said that when she gets home, she will buy some New Year's Eve offerings and prepare the house for Tet.
"I was worried that I would celebrate Tet in the hospital. Looking down from the hospital room at the street full of flowers and clothes, I felt so excited! Thank you to the hospital for arranging a car to take us home," said Ms. Lam.
Mr. Luu Van Loan (60 years old, Cung Son town, Son Hoa district) was also moved when he was able to return home on the "0 dong" bus after 20 days of stomach treatment.
"My family is a farmer, so we had to borrow money to pay for the hospital. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the doctors, I had the opportunity to go home for Tet. I was very touched when the nurses carried my things, took me to the car, wished me a happy new year, and told me to come back for a check-up," Mr. Loan shared.

Mr. Le Ngoc Duy, the driver of the love bus, said that he usually drives an ambulance but these days he has taken on the additional task of taking patients home for Tet, which makes him very excited because this is a meaningful job.
"I drive the Tay Hoa and Song Hinh districts. Yesterday, I took a mother and her child home because the mother was old and had to use a stretcher to push her. During the ride, I talked to them and found out that the family was in very difficult circumstances.
I feel happy to help patients celebrate Tet with their families. Today is the last trip, after transporting patients, the car will be taken back to the parking lot," said Mr. Duy.
According to Phu Yen General Hospital, there will be 3 "zero-dong" buses every day, departing at 9am to take patients from the hospital to all districts and towns in the province.
The program was carried out from January 24 to 28. Up to now, there have been many trips taking patients home with the fare being only a smile or a thank you.
Doctor Tran Anh Dung - Director of Phu Yen General Hospital - said this is the second year the hospital has organized charity trips to support patients who are eligible for discharge but are in difficult circumstances to return home for Tet.
"Not only do these trips help patients in difficult circumstances return home to celebrate Tet with their families, but they are also a source of spiritual encouragement, showing our solidarity with patients. In the coming years, we will continue to maintain this activity," said Dr. Dung.
