In the open group, which was also the most attractive group, player Le Tuan Minh, seeded number 3 (after Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son) showed great performance. The player from Hanoi was undefeated in all 15 games (12 wins, 3 draws), in which he defeated the 2013 world blitz champion Le Quang Liem. With the same 11.5 points but better secondary index than Tran Tuan Minh, Vietnam's number 1 player Le Quang Liem "finished" second place.

In the women's open group, there was also a surprise when player Nguyen Tran Ngoc Thuy (Dong Thap) excellently surpassed seniors such as Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung to step onto the highest podium. The age-group champions of the KPNest chess tournament were Nguyen Thai Son (U.16 men), Mai Hieu Linh (U.16 women), Nguyen Quang Minh (U.14 men), Dang Le Xuan Hien (U.14 women), Nguyen Le Nguyen (U.12 men), Nguyen Minh Chi (U.12 women), Nguyen Xuan Phuong (U.10 men), Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh (U.10 women), Mai Duy Hung (U.8 men), Ly Kha Han (U.8 women). Each champion in the 12 groups received the same prize of 50 million VND along with a laurel wreath and a gold-plated cup.
At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese chess talents from generations such as Dao Thien Hai, Tu Hoang Thong, Nguyen Anh Dung, Bui Vinh to Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung were invited to the stage to be honored. Veteran coaches who have contributed to training generations of Vietnamese chess players over the past 40 years such as Le Thien Vi, Lam Minh Chau, Luong Trong Minh were also honored and presented with commemorative medals.
Coach Lam Minh Chau said: “Not only me but also the coaches and athletes participating in the tournament felt the thoughtfulness and sophistication of the Organizing Committee in each category. I hope that the KPNest tournament will be maintained so that Vietnamese athletes have a quality playground, thereby contributing to the production of more talents”. Ms. Le Thi Thanh Truyen, Head of the Organizing Committee, said that as a parent whose child plays chess, accompanying her child through many tournaments, she understands the potential, desires and aspirations of Vietnamese chess, so she coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation to organize the tournament. “The tournament ended with smiles and tears. Victory is not everything, but the athletes' best efforts bring value”, Ms. Thanh Truyen shared.
