It is a type of Chinese seedless grape (also known as red candy), the price of which has now dropped to nearly half of what it was at the beginning of the year.

On the online market, many people sell this type of grape by the basket, by the tray, for 125,000 VND/tray.

Ms. Hoang Thi Lan (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) said: "These grapes are firm, plump, and seedless. If last year they cost about 45,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, this year the price is only 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, an unprecedented low."

At this price, 1kg of candied grapes imported from China costs the same as 1kg of zucchini or 1kg of potatoes. This price is even cheaper than 1kg of broccoli.

“They sell them in packs of about 4-5kg, so the women in my company bought them together. Seedless grapes are sweet, the stems are fresh, the fruit is still intact, crunchy, delicious, everyone likes them,” said Ms. Nguyen Hue (Dong Da, Hanoi).

Not only candy grapes but other types of Chinese grapes are also very cheap, such as finger grapes, only 110,000 VND/kg; ruby red grapes, only 50,000 VND/kg; milk grapes, 80,000 VND/kg. These types of grapes are sold according to the new "fashion" of selling by the bag and not retail.

Each basket of Chinese milk grapes has about 3-5 kg of grapes, the fruit is big, green, seedless, fresh, and crunchy like eggplant. Ruby red grapes cost from 30,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Nguyen Lan (Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that she normally buys grapes in bunches, each bunch weighs about 4-5 ounces, for about 200,000 - 250,000 VND. "But now they sell them for only 230,000 VND/bunch."

According to Ms. Lan, not only online markets have such cheap prices, but also traditional markets, grapes are sold everywhere with all kinds, and the prices are "as cheap as vegetables".

A vendor named Hoa at Nam Trung Yen market (Cau Giay, Hanoi) pointed to the bunches of candied grapes on her stall when the reporter asked, "Are there any cheap imported fruits?"

"There are pomegranates, finger grapes, milk grapes, and candy grapes imported from China, all genuine and cheap. Especially candy grapes, the fruit is fresh and still has pollen, the bunches are full of fruit, seedless, crunchy and delicious, and the price is only 30,000 VND/kg," said Ms. Hoa.

According to Ms. Hoa, imported fruits are currently at their most affordable prices this year, even cheaper than previous years. The reason is that it is fruit season, imported fruits from many countries are coming in, the supply is increasing sharply, so the price is going down.
