Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to Vietnam from June 19 to 20 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This is his fifth visit to Vietnam.
The first visit took place from February 28 to March 2, 2001. One year after assuming the leadership of Russia, President Putin paid an official friendly visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Duc Luong. The two countries issued a Joint Statement on the Strategic Partnership between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Russian Federation, and Vietnam later awarded President Putin the Ho Chi Minh Order.
