According to Neowin , there have been multiple reports online of PlayStation account holders experiencing this issue. These permanent bans appear out of nowhere with no explanation as to why they are happening to certain account owners.
Sony has yet to comment on the cause of the problem.
An X user named BenZen posted that his brother, who is disabled and unable to leave his home, tried to log into his account and received a message that the account had been permanently banned.
The good news, at least for some gamers, is that these “permanent bans” actually appear to be in error. X user Michael Dhaliwal said he received a ban notice from Sony on December 4, but was later able to log back into his account.
So far, Sony has not commented on what might be causing these random PlayStation account bans, and there are no posts about the issue on the X platform's AskPlayStation support account.
The issue comes amid frustration for account owners after Sony informed them last week that it would be removing a number of Discovery TV shows from the PlayStation Store on December 31 due to licensing issues. Not only that, customers who have paid for these shows will also see TV series they have saved to their PlayStation Store library removed shortly after.
